Search Issues
Search function problems found

I think I am not the first to notice that Search doesn't always perform as it seems it should. I'm not sure of the reasons why, but I thought having one place to document them might help. I'll begin with my example:

1. In the keyword field, use the term "distribution"
2. click the radio button for "Search for all terms"
3. Leave Search for Author field blank
4. Use the dropdown to select ARG: 1-18-08 (Cloverfield)
5. Click the radio button for "Search topic title only"
6. Under "Display results as:" click the radio button for "topics"
7. Leave all other fields or options as defaulted, click Search.

You will receive the 'no results' message.
This is not true, as can be seen here:

I've switched over to an alternate indexing option. The above search now turns up those two threads and a third, as well as something completely unrelated that I don't understand. But that's, um, better, right? Razz

Seems it may be working better. I'd rather get a few extraneous results and be able to get results in that 'topics' mode than none at all.
I'll report if more search configurations create issues, and I hope others do too.

I was talking with BrianEnigma about this today and he suggested that the extraneous topic result might feature the search term in a subject line deeper in the thread. Sure enough, he was right, so that result wasn't extraneous after all (just ambiguous Wink). Hooray!
