[INFO] [META]RE: Marlena Diamond working for "AtlasTalent"
email from company confirms she doesn't work for Atlas

Ok so I apologise whole heartedly if this was done by someone else in the past [Yes I know the spec' about her job's been around but not whether this was attempted or not]

But... I decided to email Atlas asking about Marlena and whether or not they could give me contact info and today I actually got a reply. The following is my original email and the reply:

Hi there,

I'm trying to get in contact with Marlena Diamond. I've tried her cell and her home phone number but lately to no avail. She's an old school friend of mine who says she works with you as an assistant.

Would you please ask her to email me,

Thank you.

Leyton Stone.

Now... They also didn't mention anything about the ARG/ERA or about how she used to etc. So is this just another case of JJ using a real agency etc within his product or what?

By the sounds of it he had no permission though; either way I feel dumb lol Embarassed

As I've said in the past, it's probably not a good idea to mix reality with a stupid marketing gimmick. Search a few months back for when some dumbasses were calling random numbers and waking people up in the middle of the night.

Reality = REAL
Cloverfield = MARKETING (not real)

It might be time for a refresher course on the difference between the two.

Well when someone (JJ Abrams) Uses a real company, for marketing purposes. It's not our fault if we make a mistake such as that, is it? lol

You're asking a genuine company if they employ a fictional character.
Beth works for Citigroup, they're real too, but I wouldn't bother calling.

I really don't think the purpose of this is for us to get in touch with the characters and warn them of their impending doom Rolling Eyes

If it's listed in game/in the experience....

as far as I'm concerned...no it's not a mistake...one shouldn't be made to feel dumb/bad/etc.

If a phone number is listed on a confirmed "ingame" site or whatever, and that phone number belongs to someone not associated at all with the thing...it's the sole fault of the PM/marketing promo company responsible for the "game" layout.
Yes that's messed up if the company the OP emailed is a real company, was in fact listed as being associated with this "arg" in some fashion thru a supposed employee, yet said company has no clue what this is all about....that's very messed up, blame JJ.

Don't feel bad OP.

And for the sake of ingame fiction here...seems Atlas Talent has moved eh? Hmm...to NYC...I wonder if it'll survive Grumpypant's arrival?
Razz

Peace.

Perhaps Atlas Talent is providing services? They're a voiceover company...

Their site does provide a list of samples:
http://voicebank.net/default.jsp?ptype=talent_home&tid=49
...but you have to special request samples from the "celebrities" section.

As for Citibank, they're probably a sponsor or providing financial services.

*EDIT*:
According to IMDB, "Alyssa Weisberg" is the casting director for Cloverfield.
On the Atlas Talent page in VoiceBank, "Noah Weisberg" has a promo reel.

Crazy speculation, but The Citygroup Center building is visible in the trailer breifly, and they are walking away from that direction, maybe they've come from there?

This is going back to the hackergate incident, which leyton, you were not here for.

Summary: We hacked a photobucket account and view pics we were not supposed to view.

Somebody relativly veteran around here hacked the myspace accounts and stayed there until paramount changed the password, which was the right thing to do, and he/she didnt change anything.

Anything thrid party as Helo said, myspace, a phone number not directly given to us, AtlasTalent, or whatever else are all OOG, and you should not contact them concerning IG material.

Its ok, it was quite a good argument when active, ill provide you the link.

Not the same as what you did, but in the future be careful.

Fair point... But from my experience playing ERA's/ARG's. If a website or 'company' is posted on an IG site [such as char's Myspace acct's] then it's fair game /shrug.

Not to mention JL's PB Account didn't NEED To be hacked. I merely typed the photo URL and then shortened it; it wasn't password protected so therefore didn't need hacking, it was an open account.

Emailing Atlas is not the same as calling a phone number that something thinks they've 'decoded' from some random numbers that seem to be in some smoke or some such crap. It's not even the same as calling the number of some person with the same name as a character in the movie. Email doesn't suddenly wake someone up at midnight, and thanks to spamming most companies and even the average person has and uses controls that would quickly allow them to sort out and discard such emails if they became remotely numerous.

Although this is a little of a waste of someone's time, when a real companies name is used in plain sight in an IG context it's not really unfair to send off a simple email. The fact that this person posted about it and the dead end response will probably help prevent many more people from bothering to try. The only thing I don't like is the pretexting method used - pretending to be an old friend, and asking for more information of a more private type. Just a message asking to forward your message or asking about hiring Lena for something would have sufficed. It was plausible the company could have had some IG way to respond, and a simple email like that would tell us if there was. Seeing as there's not, we can just stop here.

Methinks there is a difference. Maybe its just my ignorance, but I didn't know that Atlas was an actual company. Besides, the name just plain screams fake company. If I was unsure or it being IG or OOG, sending an e-mail really isn't all that harmful. If they ignore you, it's OOG. If they say we're OOG, then it's OOG. If they give an IG answer, then Jackpot! Either way, no harm done by e-mailing, besides a few minutes of lost time. Citibank/Citigroup however is so big that everyone knows they are legit companies, and thus off-limits. I'd group that in the youtube/myface/picturepail (see, I didn't mention them by name!) category of you're wasting your time.

E-mail doesn't hurt anyone, as long as it's a company e-mail. Personal e-mails, however, should be avoided, unless they are definitely IG. While as companies have the resources to deal with a large influx of e-mails, people cannot as effectively. Gmail and yahoo are good about spam thanks to their large storage, but if someone with a Hotmail account gets hit with a couple thousand e-mails asking whether they know Teddy Hanssen, then things could get ugly fast. So in addition to not calling random numbers, I'd say that not e-mailing random personal e-mails is also a good idea.
