[INFO] First 25 Minutes of "Cloverfield" Viewed Early

I used to work for a very prominant movie blog online which has been following "Cloverfield" since the very first trailer. In two days it will be a month since I left this blog for what we'll just call "personal reasons", but before I so abruptly left I was able to see the first twenty minutes of the movie with two of my other colleagues.

Our inbox was always being flooded with information (much of which was always fake) so when we originally got an e-mail from someone claiming to have their hands on the opening to "Cloverfield" we were skeptical. (The same way many of you will most likely be after reading this.)

I realize not everyone will believe me and I'm prepared for the bashing that will most likely ensue, but I wanted to give you guys as much information as I could. Also, I want to let you know this isn't my way of getting back at my former employer, I just believed this information may be useful to those here who are so wrapped up in the movie.

What follows is the best recollection of what I was shown that I can possibly give. I don't remember many lines and not too many exciting things happened in those first twenty minutes, but here goes:

Quote:
The movie begins in the hall walking up to an apartment door with the number "6" on it. It turns out to be Hud manning the camera and he knocks on the door. You hear people arguing on the other side and then the door opens. It's Lil and Hawk's apartment. Hawk is the one who opens the door and in the background you can see Lil hanging the "WE'LL MISS YOU ROB!" banner. She asks for Hawk's help and as he turns to go help her, Hud zooms in on Lil's ass and laughs. Hud follows Lil and Hawk around with his video camera the entire time, watching them doing all the decorating.

Hud says something about how he can't wait to see Rob's expression at the party tomorrow and Hawk says it should be a good one since Rob's never had a successful surprise party before in his life. (They mention his 16th birthday and how no one showed up.) Lil makes some comment about why no one showed up to Rob's party since it was him who introduced Hawk to all the friends he has now. You begin to get the sense that Lil and Hawk are going through a rough patch of sorts.

Lil has her back to Hud's camera and asks Jason if he's ready to go get the rest of the stuff for the party. He looks over Lil's shoulder at Hud and says something along the lines of asking if Hud can come. Lil agrees as long as he'll stop taping her.

The camera cuts out and when it starts back up Hawk, Hud and Lil are in a small convenience store. We see Hud looking through a cooler door and videotaping all the beer that's in it. You can see his reflection in the glass as Hawk comes up behind him to get a few cases. We see Lil with chips and snacks galore. As they're getting cashed out, Lil remembers they need sushi for the party and Hawk asks why that's necessary. Lil says something about Rob going to Japan and how she wanted to have a lot of Japanese-type food. The guy behind the counter looks Japanese and starts giving her ideas of what she should get.

As they're leaving the store, Hud follows from behind with the camera and he passes by none other than a "SLUSHO! WE ARE COMING!" sign posted on the left wall near the door. He doesn't pay attention to it, but Hawk makes a comment about how good those drinks are. Lil laughs and says that's pretty much the only thing Lena will ever agree with him on. The camera cuts out again.

The next thing we see is Hud's apartment. The camera is sitting on something and pointing towards him while he sits at his desk. You can tell he's working on something. He turns around and grabs the camera, only to zoom in on a card he made for Rob that's written in crayon. He jokes about barely having enough money to pay for rent and that Rob's the one with the new job, so he can just appreciate the idea.

He points the camera at himself and says he's going to say his goodbye's while he's sober, and says a bunch of stuff about Rob always being there for him since they were kids, how he feels like his other brother and then he says something like "see you when you get back from Japan" and mentions how Rob always did come back for him. He laughs and says something about how gay that sounded and then turns the camera off.

When it starts back up we're at Lil and Hawk's apartment again. The party hasn't arrived yet, but Marlena's there now and she's sipping on a Slusho!. Hawk tries to get some from her but she tells him to get a job and buy his own. Off camera we hear Lil comment on how he's the brother who doesn't have a job. Hud senses some tension and asks where Jamie is. Marlena mentions Jamie's urinary tract infections she's been getting lately and that she doesn't think she'll be making it. Hawk says something about how it's strange that Marlena and Jamie are both having similar problems and that it must have to do with the apartment they live in. Marlena says her bowel movements aren't exactly the same as a UTI. Hud says something about how this video is supposed to be a tape for Rob about how much his friends will miss him, not how much his friends fight with one another and turns the camera off.

Now the party begins. We see tons of people in the apartment now and they all seem to be getting pretty shitty. Hud is of course going around and asking people to say something to Rob. The people we saw talking in the original trailer aren't the same, except for the girl with big boobs who pretty much just shakes them in Hud's direction. In the background we hear someone say that they're almost there, so everyone gets really quiet. There's a like ten seconds of people shuffling around and Hud points the camera towards the door. The door opens and in walks... Beth. Oops, not Rob. Everyone grumbles about it and Beth asks why no one's excited to see her. Behind her the door starts to open again and Lil grabs her out of the way, just in time for Rob to come through the door. Everyone screams "SURPRISE!"

There's the usual party crap going on and Hud is still wandering around with the camera, but by his slurred words behind the camera you can tell he's starting to get a little drunk. He goes over to Marlena who's obviously drunk, but still sipping on the same slusho! She laughs at the camera and says, "What's this for again?" and Hud says he's sending it to Slusho. The camera keeps cutting out and starting again at really random times of the party. The last time it goes back to the party we see everyone dancing and then... ROARRRR and all the lights go out. Hud says something about looking for night vision, but before he can switch it on the lights come back. Everyone's looking around and talking about the noise, when Rob mentions getting a better look from the roof.

Everyone piles outside and is looking around at seemingly nothing going on, when suddenly we see the first explosion off in the distance. Unlike in the trailer, Hud keeps the camera on the explosion for a pretty good amount of time, until the fireballs start coming down towards the people on the roof. Everyone is still screaming from the initial explosion, but it becomes almost a deafening sound when things start to rain down on them. Someone pulls Hud from behind and he spins around, heading towards the door. It gets really dizzying right now as you can hear everyone yelling and running down the stairs of the apartment. The camera is really jiggly and you can't make out much, except at one point Hud trips and we see someone pulling him up off the ground. Lil, Hud and Rob make it outside at the same and start looking around for everyone else. People are smashing into them, running away from whatever caused the explosion and as Hud turns to look in that direction, we see the head of the statue of liberty coming out of the sky. The head smashes into the ground, taking out a taxi on the street and coming to rest literally feet from Hud. END.

it sounds like it could maybe possibly be true, or at least semi-true, but i've learned to take everything randomly posted with a grain of salt...

Haha, right. I mean, it probably goes down like that somewhat but anyone could've just guessed that.

gah...why can't people learn...the reason we have an ARG is to figure it out on our own collective selves, not to be randomly thrashed about with trolls saying they've seen the movie and then go into detail about it.... it just ruins the fun and thats why they do it, to throw you off

regardless if this is true or not, this thread deserves to DIE, please, no debate on the "review"

Hmm, Hawk's relation to Slusho! is like in his MySpace blog. Reasonable.
But I'll wait for the movie...

Anyway, thanx. I enjoy the reports and "reports" of the movie screening in same case, regardless of their authenticity, because I imagine the movie(s), described here and it's like dreaming about the unseen "Cloverfield". Hope, you understand what I mean Smile

PS. End, Colt, sorry for BUMPing this thread.

Edit: Colt got to it before me. God is my connection slow.

Double Edit: Sorry my slowness also caused a bump.

Should I try to scare this one away like the last one?

No need for anyone to scare anyone else away. I'm aware of the thread Smile

This is old, old, old stuff.
This has been around quite a while, I'm working on digging up our first reference to it.

You know, I thought the same thing. I could have sworn I'd read that gag about HUD zooming in on the girl's butt somewhere before, but my search attempts didn't come up with anything.

I don't think the content was reposted on this site, I think there was a link to the post on some blog somewhere. It was a good while ago.
Bogus anyway, for a couple of reasons - not the least of which is that if this was 25 minutes of the movie, almost a quarter of the movie covering a 7 hr. attack would be consumed with pre-party backstory. This is just tripe.
