Here's just a thought, one which hopefully I won't get one of those cute little trouts for....

So it's supposedly near 70° in NYC in January. Also keep in mind that temp of 63° or whatever was taken after midnight, so it was likely above 70° earlier in the day when the sun was still out. What if this monster, whether it be through insane amounts of body heat, escaping through the ocean floor allowing lava to spill out (or whatever), or by who knows, breathing fire or something..... warms the water off the coast of NYC in the Atlantic? Warmer ocean waters lead to warmer air temperatures. Perhaps this monster is somehow emitting a huge amount of energy/heat while still under water, or perhaps Tagruato managed to crack the earth's crust and allow large amounts of lava to escape on the ocean floor.

I like this idea. What if the ocean floor in the area of the Chaui Station is "swiss cheese" like and easily broken through? In the commercial, at the end, we see firey little footsteps on the edge of a 'chocolate wall' (which the monkey is waving a swiss cheese flag in front of) maybe when TAG was drilling or "Hammering" through the floor they broke through the "swiss cheesey" ocean floor hitting the mantle which is HOT hence the "oven mitt".. They FIND DNA from a prehistoric animal in one of the holes and are now MAKING 'read cloning' a new creature....I know, its a streach...but there you have it...

Yeah, the whole temperature thing always bothered me, because an average new york january is usually between 26-38 degrees. It would be rather freakish to have a 70 degree night.

So maybe you are on to something. ^^

I dunno; I wonder if maybe she has the fan on because of an illness. Remember she wasnt feeling well in earlier posts? Had the Pepto out? Maybe the fan is on cuz she has fever. Seems strange to me that, if the monster is to attack on January 18, 2008, isnt it now, for Jamie, December 2007? And is it actually hot in New York right now? No, its not. Seems strange to me that JJ would bother to put an actual, imminent date on the event if he didnt have in mind that Jamie's world was really just our own... mind you, with a 300 foot tall monster added in.

earlier this year it was 70 degrees on January 6 so it is possible although i really do like this theory because the world the movie is in is the same as ours so it could get really cold on that day in NY so the onster is what caused the unusual warm day. It is actually very plausible. i would believe it. nice theory tommy boy

About an illness...remeber in the first vid when she accidently left the camera on? "I think I'm getting another bladder infection".

Okay, guys, get real. Theres no reason she should have a fan on. There's all this talk about a 70 degree NY in the middle of December. Even if that was possible, it would have to be at the hottest part of the day, somewhere between noon and 3 o'clock. So pick up on the fact that the room is dark, the lamp is on and she's fully dressed, and you realize it's evening/late night. You are gonna have a hard time tryin to convince me that NY is that hot that late in December.

Well, at SOME point you have to break that, especially when you consider that ARG or ARE, its still AR- alternate reality. Somewhere like our universe b ut not quite.

That does make me think it would be freaking awesome if, instead of a midnight movie, they released the movie such that all the events occurred in real time (newscast at 1:13 or whenever, and its actually 1:13 in your theater)... nah, they'd never be clever enough for that.

That wouldn't be clever because you could only ever play the film once per day.

This has been one of the hottest winters in california in quite some time. Mid-80s every day.

Not sure what part of California you are in, but we are getting sub-freezing temps nightly in the desert.

That's because you're in the desert bro. I'm in pasadena, like 25 minutes from l.a. Today reached above 80. I don't understand it.

Yep, and where I'm at in Fullerton right now, it's colder than a witch's teat. Like, dizzam.

But here's what I'm trying to say about the weather: Yes, everything everyone is saying here about weird weather stuff actually happening in New York and wherever else is true/factual/possible, but why would they choose to create a movie, where literally everything can be controlled, to make it a winter that's slightly warmer than normal, when the romanticized view of New York in the winter is like, ice-skating in Rockefeller Plaza? It's probably Grumpy-related if you asked me.

However, in an attempt to bring the focus of this thread away from this weird little tangent of weather reports from around the world (No disrespect meant, by the way. I feel like I'm sounding like a JERK right now, so I felt I'd clarify. You guys are tight. And girls. Let's be PC.) and back to the video at hand, I'd like to also discuss the fact that, though I shall remain steadfast in my monster-related-heat spell theory, I by no means believe that it is in any way a vital plot point of the story. I just think Jamie having a fan was an attempt at authenticating the fact that it's hotter than usual outside, and yeah, like we've all been saying, that's pretty darn strange.

Also, did anyone else think it was weird, and I read it somewhere earlier, that she didn't even blink before discarding a Slusho! hat? Maybe Slusho! is already pretty commonplace in America?

P.S.- Sorry this post is so long. I'm very neurotic about my language. Anything I write has to be a freaking labor of love for some reason. I probably could have knocked all this out in two sentences, but now I'm spending more time on this post script than I did on my question about Slusho!. Figures.

Fullerton is like 30 minutes from where i am. Right now it is 43 degrees...i was more talking about daytime temps.

Well, yeah, haha. But you know what I mean. Temperature fluctuations exist.

...dude. I only meant on 1-18-08
Clearly there's nothing special about a midnight showing after the day of the movie. Kind of like that movie the Omen, only hopefully more entertaining and not occurring on 06-06-06

I'd love to see a movie that was in real-time like that, but I don't think it's a possibility with Cloverfield, simply because of the part in the trailer where Rob says "seven hours ago, something attacked the city". It's a well-accepted fact that the movie begins before the monster attacks, so the movie would have to be seven hours or more long in order to have it be completely real time. But, hey, like I said, I think it's a great idea, I'd love to see a movie like that....I just don't really want to be in my seat for seven hours Wink
