...

And giant monster sex in the middle of NYC wouldn't get even the slightest nod of offense....NYC is totally PG-13.

*whoops....tangent sorry*

EDIT: I totally disagree with all who claim that droppin f-bombs equals a more realistic feel to a movie. Sorry but if I saw grumpypants walkin in my town...I'd say: Holy Shit!

Peace.

well i think like it's been mentioned before that jj didnt think it'd be have this much hype (reason for releasing it in january)... then realized it had a lotta hype and since he obviously can't change the release date the best way to profit from this january movie is PG 13... IMO

Talking about profit... i bet this movie is gonna make it BIG with DVD/HD-DVD *Wish paramount did Blu-Ray... grumbles*

Think about it, people go watch the movie and tell friends how awesome it is, then by the time its out of theaters im sure a lot of people might have not gotten a chance to see it because they were busy with various things. Then, once released on DVD, everyone can watch it, and possibly have an Directors Cut release.

Or people go to the movie and tell their friend how totally preteen it was and no one ever buys it. That, of course, is the other option.

Exactly. He's stated that this was supposed to be a small film, but it's garnering tons of attention. No turning back now. If it makes even $60 million, that'd be a big profit, and the studio would most likely be interested in a sequel. The sequel would then probably come out during the summer.

From the looks of it though, I highly doubt that would happen. Razz
*EDIT* first message was to a post beforehand.

Regarding a sequel.... none of us have seen it yet so we cant say if a sequel would be good or not, but I hope they dont overdo this movie with sequels and make it utter crap in the end.

From the Motion Picture Association of America's website
Quote:
A motion picture's single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

So because everyone else may scream "Holy Shit!," when the SOL head comes crashing into the street, they may allow it.

I don't think not being able to cuss up a storm is going to hurt the movie. But on the other hand if everyone is running around talking like Ned Flanders, there would be a problem.

 MPAA ratings

From MPAA Website...

A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence.

An R-rated motion picture, in the view of the Rating Board, contains some adult material. An R-rated motion picture may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements, so that parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously. Children under 17 are not allowed to attend R-rated motion pictures unaccompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about R-rated motion pictures in determining their suitability for their children. Generally, it is not appropriate for parents to bring their young children with them to R-rated motion pictures.

This isn't so bad guys, I mean really. Aside from the annoying ass kids, PG-13 are only a notch or two under R.

Look at the bright side, um...nevermind.

It's still ok, I guess.

Personally, I've always thought it would be PG-13. There's one very simple reason - money.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Quote:
"While the movie industry produced nearly 12 times more R-rated films than G-rated films from 1989-2003, the average G-rated film produced 11 times greater profit than its R-rated counterpart"
...
The average profit for films:
G rated - $92.3 million
PG rated - $78.8 million
PG-13 rated - $45.6 million
R rated - $17.9 million

Shit is allowed in PG-13 movies. Hell, they used it almost excessivley in Transformers.

Black dude: "Man...if you could see this shit.."

-Sam being chased by Transformer-: "SHIT! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!!"

I heard from critics that Beowulf deserved to be R, despite its PG-13 rating. There was apparently a lot of R content in that movie...Beowulf ripping out a dragon's heart, Angelina Jolie, etc.

In other news, due to the lack of excessive swearing, does this mean that whistleblower's "movie synopsis" has been disproved officially, if not already?
