well for me this whole viral game was fun but with the rating it seems destined to fail and fail hard core. if they dont show the drama and realism they are shooting for then whats the point. i mean to show a girl exploding but not show it because of the rating then this is gonna bomb. i mean the realism they are going for has to be intense provacative and full of f bmbs. sorry i am very hurt that after they see all the investment time we have put in we are all let down so thank JJ. it just sucks that this happens now after we have gotten all hyped but i bet the movie will end up being cheesy and look like a highschool production.

Im still gonna hold judgement until I see the movie.

You know PG13 isnt what it used to be. Alot of PG13 movies today would have been rated R ten years ago. So I will hold judgement until I see it

see i know that but it just seems like things wont get shown that will take away from the realism

I agree,I'll hold my judgement. I think it does really suck for this type of movie to only be Pg-13. But, i am willing to go see it even if it's a pile of steaming... Shocked

I think it has to do with their production group wanting to have a much broader audience, with then in return brings higher revenue sales, but even if they dont show explicit stuff, the action sequences should make up for it. They have edited the movie to a point where it is still very suspensful and graphic enough, and will defintly be satisfying to all of us. It will be fine. Cool

I don't care if they show explicit stuff, as long as the terrifying intensity of the teaser and trailer hold up throughout the film.

I would hate for them to cut down on this just so that the 9 yr olds in the audience don't pee their pants at night...

... and then we're forced to buy a "Director's Cut" of the film...

... which would have looked way better on the big screen!

I'm mean, what makes a movie have an "R" rating... EXTRA gore, cursing, nudity. Those three things don't always make a movie good.

The movies they show these days, I could honestly care less about. The Hills Have Eyes, Hostel, Saw 2 - 4. They're not even scary, they're just bloody. And after a while, that gets old.

Its all about the plot line, character development, and of course- the effects [realistic or not].

I don't think there will be much character development because this won't be some over-the-top drama. But with the amount of backstory being put into it and the quality of the effects we've seen so far- it'll still be a good movie.

I can almost bet money that people will still bitch and moan because they didn't go the plot route that they wanted the movie to go, or they'll complain because the monster didn't look the way the expected it to look. Either way, I'm going into the theater with no expectations- just anticipation.

Either way, it could be up to our imagination, such as the camera moving too quickly for us to see a FULL death, leading our imagination to fill in the gaping blank of "What the hell just happened to that person?" , which would make it all the more horrifying.

I hav to agree with quick camera shots JJ might jusst be leaving us with no blood but letting us use our imagination to how that person died. also pg-13 isnt what it used to be so i still think it will be violent enough.

 JAWS anyone?

JAWS was rated PG-13 and is considered in many circles a classic suspensful and SCARY monster movie. F-bombs and gore do not necessarily a classic monster movie make.

Go See The Movie, Enjoy Yourselves, and don't worry about ratings. Have you seen TV? Ratings don't mean much in today's society.

Wha? Jaws came out in the mid seventies, a decade before PG-13 was created, but it was PG which lends even more to your argument. The first PG-13 movie was Red Dawn in 1984. Wolverines!

The other side of the coin would be a movie like Alien vs. Predator. That was definitely a sell-out going for teen cash and was widely panned. AVP-R coming out this month is supposedly going back to its roots and very deliberately set out for an R rating. Heck, they even have a 'red band' not-approved-for-all-audiences trailer with lots of gore and looks to be what AVP should have been.

Yes id much rather hav pg-13 and good story than AVP-R which is gonna be awesome but its gonna have no story and just straight up gore. Especially since ive spent a few months with this backstory.

You highlighted the wrong things my friend

"An R-rated motion picture, in the view of the Rating Board, contains some adult material. Those are what you should have highlighted, i think there should be intense or persistent violence AND hard language if there is a giant ass monster attacking NYC. I am still going to see, i hope i'm not disappointed.

There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence.

A skyscraper sized monster would be pretty extreme but probably isn't considered realistic. And the violence is probably not persistent because it will probably have that whole guy gets the girl storyline... At least until they die.

EDIT:
http://www.mpaa.org/FilmRatings.asp has a search for movie ratings. Cloverfield returns 0 hits.
