[PRESS] Paramount to Advertise Cloverfield on Mobile Phones Exclusive Film Clip? Here's a link to an article about some new Microsoft "technology" that's being used to push ads out to cell phones. Apparently, Paramount will use this to promote Cloverfield via a contest to be the first person to get to see it.

EDIT: Here's another link with some related, but different info mentioning that the promotion involves an "exclusive film clip":

Interesting. A month or two ago I was hunting for other possible domains associated to this game and I found that 1-18-08.mobi and several variations had been registered in March. Nothing there now, but might it be possible they'd use it for said promotion?
Whois 1-18-08.mobi
Note that the registrant contact is adminSPLAT sectorseven.org. Sectorseven.org was registered by the same person as 01-18-08.com, CloverfieldMovie.com, etc.

Do you have to pay to see it, or something? Or just watch it countless times on your phone? I don't get it. It doesn't seem "cutting edge", it seems stupid.
Although, I imagine that there will quite a few people who program their phones to play the clip over and over and over and over again.

That would be awful, but I wouldn't put it past them.
I do think that Cloverfield is the perfect movie to promote on handheld devices though

And this just the day after I picked up my new Treo, which I'm typing this on right now.

Lol... the person with the most clip views? o_o
I guess it's just a matter of whoever can write a program for their phone to keep refreshing the clip to get a ridiculous amount of views.

I'm sure the videos will wind up on YouTube, but I doubt that clicking them will do anything to gain access to the "first showing" or whatever. I'm not sure anyone really understands how the ads are going to work. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

[SPEC] Perhaps we will "intercept" a transmission to Randy's green phone that we will be able to view on our phones? Eh?

If we weren't before, we probably will now. Not too bad of an idea there.

Is it going to be available to all cell phone providers?? I don't understand how you can send it to EVERY phone.. i mean... even prepaid phones?? I'm thinking more like it will have a link or something to that effect that you can go to through your phones' web axcess..
I work for a cell phone provider so it seems hard to make this possible to all cell phones..?

As I understand it (and I may be way off base here), Microsoft is offering their own ads on their MSN Mobile page. So, you physically have to make your phone's Web browser visit that specific site. Paramount will probably do the same thing.
There will probably be a designated page (at Paramount or MSN or Yahoo, etc.) and you have to visit that site to see the ad content. Click on the ad, it tracks it back to your cell number, and you get to watch an exclusive clip.
Edit: I just used my phone to visit mobile.msn.com and sure enough, they have little banner ads up top. "Click Here, Take a Survey" Paramount will likely place their ads on MSN's mobile page (and others, I'm sure). And we all know ads cycle through with each page refresh. So, it's not likely you can just visit a certain page over and over. That'll create more hits on a certain page, drawing in more revenue from advertisers. The cycle continues.
