I got the video downloaded...

I used a program called Orbit Grab++

http://www.orbitdownloader.com/How-to-Download-RTMP.htm

it is in *.flv format.

I used this link to download the stream from:

http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/475a0f5f7f2007c8/4761c0532cb94bf2

BTW: the video is 20.9MB, and can be played using FLV Player:

Actually, (I believe) it is rather just getting recorded. I read somewhere that these software 'records' the downloaded bits before they are discarded and then adds them together.

The video finished downloading long before the video got to 1 minute streamed in the window.

I believe it just recognizes the protocol RTMP, so it was able to locate and download the source.

However, if you could download the source, would it not be the same as progressive downloading? I think that the RTMP protocol only allows a few seconds before and after the current point to be downloaded, then discarded. I'm not too sure, but all I know is that that is the highest quality you can get.

How I found the contest early

Thanks everyone for your support!

Some people have asked about this, so I thought I would share how I found the contest early.

There was a post a few days back from DougBThree - Paramount to Advertise Cloverfield on Mobile Phones:

DougBThree wrote:
...Paramount will use this to promote Cloverfield via a contest to be the first person to get to see it ... the promotion involves an "exclusive film clip"

I have a crappy cell phone, so I knew I wouldn't be able to watch a video clip on my phone. But I figured the contest part of it would have to be online, i.e. not done through the cell phone. I figured the cell phone advertisement would probably give you a website to go to on your computer.

Well, the only "non-game" website we have is CloverfieldMovie.com, so I tried CloverfieldMovie.com/contest. There was no page there, but something interesting happened. It added a slash after the end of the URL - CloverfieldMovie.com/contest/ - meaning there actually was a contest folder there (even though it was empty at the time). I was also able to find CloverfieldMovie.com/contest/rules/ using the same method (which I learned during The Lost Experience), but also, no page ... yet.

I kept checking those URL's and eventually something showed up! Both the Contest and Rules pages were posted up, but there was still no link on the front page. I just figured maybe there wouldn't be a link on the front page, and you would have to find it via the cell phone advertising, since according to the rules page, the contest had started.

Well, we all know what happened after that, but in case you haven't read the last 38 pages Smile, I posed it on my site and created this thread. That night, right after the podcast, Paramount emailed me and asked me to take the widget down because it wasn't ready yet. They were VERY nice about it, and I was happy to oblige, but the cat was already out of the bag, and word spread quickly.

Maybe monster spoilers

I don't know how helpful this could possibly be, but here we go.

These are screen caps of the monster, inverted and not. I used handy-dandy paint, so if you want it zoomed and cleaned up, you're on your own. Smile

The top few have been inverted and marked for a reason. Check the bottom frames especially. There seems to be the faint outline of spines in bottom left picture. In the bottom right, we can see segmentation; whether it functions like joints on an insect or like linking plates over limbs like an armadillo, we have yet to know.

I hope this isn't a dumb post. The images are big, so if you want to reply try not to post them again.

Yeah I see small bunch of 'claws' coming out from underneath the leg, where I had been expecting a knee.

I posted some gifs here,
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22615&start=480

I don't think I got the arrangement of the talons right, each one might be a separate claw instead of the jointed ones I've drawn.

What exactly are you trying to do? Have you grabbed Dennis' widget and now need someone to watch your widget (to give Dennis his grab)?

I just want to confirm that the tanker that capsized IS a Tagruato tanker. I saw it with my own eyes. Shocked I bumped up the widget to 1600x900 and got a decent screen cap. You can clearly see the Tagruato "Hand of Power" logo.

I didn't know we could see it at such nice resolution!

That is a great find!
