id love to think its a monster laughing, but as an owner of a large dog in new york(wait large dogs exist there :O!!!!!!!!!!!) i can tell you it sounds identical, as for stopping abruptly all dogs react differently to stressfull situations, on the 4th of july once my dog hears fireworks he barks once and hides in the bathtub(kinda funny actually) does'nt make a sound afterwards, for those who dont want to hear or except this rational explination, i suggest you also visit here then - http://listverse.com/science/top-10-inkblot-test-cards/ - there's tons of pictures of the monster there.

I'm just going to quote this as it needs to be read.

To anyone who's testing this on other guinea pigs: Please don't play them the initial roar, if possible.

A laugh? Seriously? c'mon, they're not trying to keep people from seeing this movie now are they? That would be ridiculous if the monster laughed, who would want to see such a cheesy movie. Action packed or not, a monster that laughs, ooo scary.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Agreed! an intelligent creature great! a laughing creature would make it too "simpson" like, & before I'm hog tied and boiled in oil! I love the simpsons but I want my monsters to be at least menacing! and at best Monstrous!! Wink

Which means it's outside? And incredibly loud?

Not a dog. Part of the roar. But not necessarily a "laugh".

Maybe the monster has a cold, or is athsmatic. It kind of sound like roooooooooooooaaaarrrrrr cough cough cough.

Definatly laughter

I'm a music producer. After years of working with a human voice, I can say that I'm SURE that it's laughter. It sounds like it has the same processing applied to it that the roar does. It might not be intended to be laughter, but it defiantly is. I kind of like it too...
Imagine being helpless in the hands of a giant, intelligent monster.

Well, after playing it with the sound cranked up with Prologic then Dolby turned on, it's definitely *not* a dog. You hear the dog after the roar, then you hear the "laugh." I am not saying it's a laugh per se (i.e. the monster thinks ripping the head off a statue is a hoot). But it's a sound the monster is making imo.

Had my wife listen to it without any coaching, just asked what that sounded like after the roar. She said "a dog bark, then a deep laugh."

So eh.. take it for what you will. I wouldn't put it past them to have added it as a Christmas joke (monster going Ho ho ho). But I think it's supposed to be the monster at any rate. There is no way that this is the dog. I hear the dog.. and then I hear the laugh, they are unrelated.

I did play in stereo, stereo 2x, quad as well.. you can hear, but nearly as well as with dolby, and prologic was the clearest.

Yup, it's the new "It's Alive," no "It's a Lion" debate.

But in that one I knew it was "It's Alive" from the get go. "It's a Lion" always seemed childish to me and aggravated me to no end.

But with this one, I just can't make up my mind. When I first heard it, it sounded like a deep, evil laugh. That was my first impression. But when the idea of a dog barking was put in my head, it sounds exactly like a dog barking.

Frustrating. I like the idea of a monster laughing at us. Just don't know if this is the case here.

Do you also notice there's no "coo-koo" sound when the head of the SOL hits the building?

Wait, so this isn't the dog barking? I'm sure some people were talking about the dog being the laugh, now I'm confused. I think I hear what you mean, but I can't make out what it is, there's people screaming on top of it.

edit: Just sounds like reverb from the roar dying off I think.

I have a high-end sound set-up on my computer...and I cannot stress this enough: IT'S A DOG!

I'm not sure what's worse...people thinking that the creature is laughing or the people wanting the creature to be laughing.

The only ones laughing here are JJ Abrams and Co...the same laugh they had when the "It's a lion, it's huge" morons came out of the woodwork.

Nope. Definitely don't hear anything after the "dog barking."

It's either a dog barking or the monster laughing. Can't hear both.

I think the sound is the tanker being capsized (though I am not all that good at identifying sounds) and the explosion is definently the tanker also. I am 90% sure you all know that, but if they are as close to the explosion as that then it would not be surprising that they could hear the tanker capsize.

Yeah, it's one sound, which might be a dog, or something, but the laught is deeper in the soundmix...

I'd love to have someone isolate the sound and speed it up, i suspect they slowed it down to get it deeper and more menacing.
