[OT] How can I get into other ARG's? Hey all,
I saw the cloverfield teaser before Transformers and was hopelessly pulled in like the rest of you. I've been an avid reader and occasional poster on the unfiction cloverfield boards for a few months now. I'm fascinated by the storyline, and the neverending hunt for even the tinyest of clues has me pulled in like it were a black hole.
I've looked at some of the other ARG forums (Deus City, Silver Ladder, etc.) on unfiction, and I'm completely baffled by where to even begin if I want to work my way into these storylines.
What tips do you guys/gals have for getting in on the fascination that other ARG's offer, and how can I acquaint myself with the rediculously huge amounts of information there are to absorb before even getting started in an ARG that's already been running for a while?
Beyond that, what are some ARG's you can recommend that may be similar in their operation to how this cloverfield campaign has gone?
Thank you!

I like to start right at the begining checking out most trailheads less than 10 pages. I find less of an information overload doing this. the downside to this method is you can miss some really good args if you miss the early trailhead
As far as suggestions I am currently playing Nathan Cade it has just started this week not a lot has happened so it might be a good one for you
Enjoy

If you are interested in Dark Knight, there is a wiki for that game with lots of information to help you catch up. Right now, it looks like nothing new may happen before New Years, but you never know. That game will be running for a while as the movie isn't released for several months.
Dark Knight wiki: http://batman.wikibruce.com/Home
Also, Eldridge Errors, is currently in hiatus, so this is a good time to catch up on that game before the next chapter starts. There is also a wiki for that game as well as an in-game forum at www.sentryoutpost.com
I think that looking for a game with a wiki guide or trail that helps to summarize information is a good place to start.
You can also feel free to post any questions you have about any game in a thread for that game. People will answer you.

I keep checking under the Forum Index - Updates - News and Rumers. They seem to discuss possible ARGs which may be starting. Eldridge Errors looks great; but I haven't had time to sift through the threads.
There is a possible Ghostbusters one starting next year which i checked out.

I would like to dispel the idea that you have to get in on the beginning of a game to participate. It isn't that hard to catch up and when there are good guides, it is fairly simple. Everyone here is smart enough to catch up with a game. I've been doing it myself in the Dark Knight game. Please don't let the fact you might not have been in a game from day one dissuade you from trying it out. People are very helpful and will answer questions if you have them. I know that Dark Knight and Eldridge will be having more things happening and I think that players from 1-18-08 might enjoy them.
Of course, if you ever get stuck in any game, you can always PM me and I will be happy to try to help you find assitance or answers to your questions whether I am playing that game. (that goes for everyone )
The link for Ghostbusters is main site . If you look on the left hand side of the main page there is a place to sign up to be a ghostbuster. I have no idea what is coming with this promotion, but you can always sign up if you want.

I just got to discover http://www.worldwithoutoil.org/ today, which looks like it was an awesome ARG to participate it. Then I realized... damn, I'm to late, it's over.
Does anyone know if there will ever be another ARG like that? I would have loved to participate in that ARG, but didn't the chance.

I started following cloverfield just a few weeks before my join date on unfiction, and I'm as informed as anyone else here, so it doesn't seem to be too hard to get into args. (although I don't think cloverfield is really in depth.)

I've been wanting to *make* an ARG, but considering the level of skill I see around here, it's not something that can simply be whipped up easily; if it were, it wouldn't last three hours. I need to do some serious planning.

Ahh, so it's time for that talk, eh? Well, I guess it's appropiate since you're becoming a man. Well, you see, when an internet surfer likes ARGs, he/she goes to unFiction, which everyone knows is the king/queen of ARG's. Well, I would get more into it, but I don't think it's appropiate on these forums.

Given the success of World Without Oil (and the very sketchy rumors I hear about what people are working on), I think there similar ARGs in the future are almost inevitably going to appear.

[OT] Other ARGs, question regarding Eldritch Errors Are posts made IG, but not "in/on the path" of the story? So I was looking at Eldritch Erros ( I like Lovecraft ) and noticed that it appears that "HPHack" was the PM, and would post "in character," as well as the fact that folks ask questions as though they're in the "game universe" but not in the game?
So it's almost like a role-playing game?
But you do *not* do things like, "I dated that one girl who disappeared," or "remember going to Miskatonic Elementary, I sat in the back."
Are my statements correct? Or does it depend on the ARG?

HP Hack and a few others were/are characters and they post in the Sentry Outpost forum. They were the moderators of the forum. Then many started disappearing (some were killed, one committed suicide, one is in a mental hospital). Players were promoted to forum moderators/administrators to continue the IG forum.
Yes, the characters are voiced by the game PMs. But everything in Sentry Outpost is done IG.
Discussions and postings in uF are the OOG realm, good for META communication or discussion of topics we don't want the IG characters to become privy. There is also a chat room in irc.chat-solutions.org at #stfeline.

A really great ongoing ARG right now is 48 Hours in Purgatory game that can be found here:
fortyeight.freeforums.org
All you have to do is register
The game is easily the best game I've played so far with lots of suspense, videos and codes to decipher and pick apart. I'd recommend it over anything else
