are you kidding me right now?

You like the first AVP? I agree AVP-R wasn't great, but ANYTHING is better than that watered down piece of crap that was AVP. A PG-13 Alien vs Predator movie? Paul WS Anderson should have been shot or at least banned from ever making another movie. The only reason he gets movie jobs is cuz he'll do whatever the studio execs want him to. "Ah, gee, Mr. Anderson, lets try to limit the blood and gore in your movie...we want to shoot for a PG-13 rating so we can make more money off it." Who cares about making a good movie? At least the Brothers Strause made the movie their way, which was a hell of a lot better the first one.

Not kidding you. This newest movie had gore when it wasn't even necessary. That's NOT what people like about the AVP stories.. they want big fights between the aliens and the Predator. In the first film, we get a GREAT fight sequence that lasts 15 minutes or so with various Predators fighting the Aliens, and they were well choreographed. In the new one, you couldn't even SEE the fights, what there were of them. And one thing more, the Pred-Alien was just....stupid. I wouldn't have minded a bigger Alien, but the dreadlocks and the more 'upright' posture of it were just horrible ideas. The BEST part of this movie was that super-brief sequence where the Predator responds to the distress call of the hunter ship.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. With AVP, you have two choices. Throw a great director and a great-script at it, and make a great movie like the original two Alien movies or just make a movie that shows people getting killed in blood and gore fest by the two badass monsters. The original was neither, at least this one had the blood and gore.

To each his own. Blood and gore are never on my list of things to see in a film.

I actually thought all three alien movies were amazing. They should have stopped at the third one and they should have made a third Predator.

No trailer (they were only trailers in 3D)

Saw I Am Legend the next Night (Saw Beowulf Friday, when I AM LEGEND sold out, and we missed it, but we saw IAL on Sat)

No Cloverfield trailer in either one.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

the CG in IAL pissed me off... looked completely fake, except maybe the female on the table that he captured, until she woke up, and even when she "cleaned up" it looked horrible... The dogs looked fake... etc. The city looked great, and they obviously spent most of their time on making it look aged.

btw
Yes, it was a mutated measel virus, but it was mutated to attack the cancer, ultimately giving humans rabies-type symptoms. The whole aggression thing makes sense. but since it was a genetically altered form, the infected we're "clean-blood-hungry", as if the cancer fed on new blood, now... i didnt notice them actually eating people... They were without fear, so they didnt hold back when it came to climbing a building or running into cars. (they used the window sills to scale the side of the house, btw... not too hard if you'r not afraid of falling)

also,

about Beowulf.. The CG was so much more worth it. especially in 3D. The 3D was subtle in most scenes (not outrageously obvously like that live-action Brandon Frasier "to the center of the earth" movie). The characters had personalities, thank god, and it was quite a sad story.

i recommend to see Beowulf in 3D if you're ever going to see it.
I suggest stray away from IamLegend in IMAX, b/c you'll definitely see the fakeness on a huge screen... lol

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have no fear in scaling a street pole...if anything, it's like an 8 foot fall, not that bad. However, i could not scale it in one second flat like the creatures did. I cannot believe for a second that they were able to climb buildings and poles like nothing because of a lack of fear.

Im right there with you brother, and i aint ashamed to say it. Movies that are over the top gory just dont do anything for me. Its like "forget the story or plotline, lets just see how much gore we can throw at the screen". Some of the most terrifying and scary movies are some of the least bloodiest. The ones that dont show you everything and let your mind make up things. those are the scariest. I was so happy to see Cloverfield wasnt going to be one of those "splatter" movies. Thank God

i completely agree the cgi imagery in I am legend was horrible. all the monsters looked fake and unreal. quite frankly, you could do a much better job these days. if u take a completely animated movie like beowulf and compare that with the "castlevania-lookalike" monsters/vampires/whadever things from i am legend....its shameful.

will smith did a good job (except that *i sing a song for ma dead dog scene*) but he cant make it a good film.

4/10

agreed with the both of you. I'm actually thankful for the rating it's been given. Movies like Hostel, Saw 2/3, The Hills have Eyes 2- The plot is either repetitive or just ridiculous, probably because they spend way too much time on wanting to make creative ways for people to die. They hide the terrible plot/script by caking it all with fake blood.

Just seen IAL in the UK & had both Cloverfield & Dark Knight trailers - this is the first bit of advertising we'd had I think as we didn't get the teaser trailer in the summer.

And we have to wait until Feb for the actual film so I'm going to have to avoid finding out too much about it in Jan.

...just saw I am Legend. Can somebody explain why they strayed so far from the plot of the novel? It wasn't until I figured out that Ana and whatshisface weren't vampires that I realized how truly awry everything was.
