Re: Frankenstein
I've been researching this too.

sdaytime wrote:

But this just needs to be discussed.
I think Frankenstein is going to be a very important part of the plot.
Does anybody have any ideas about it? I put my big "gold" thing on another forum, the theory thing.

I have found several interesting tidbits of info, but have not yet connected it all. Just a few to start with:

1. The publishing company's name is different on the letter is Lackington, Hughes. Harding, Mayor & Jones and the card has Lackngton, Hughes, Harding, Mavor & Jones. Wikipedia search for Frankenstein has Lackington, Hughes. Harding, Mavor & Jones. Also, alchemists is spelled alchimists in the letter and Shelley has alchymists on the card. Dunno

2. Shelley wrote to Lord Byron (letter in Janus Archives)
Quote:
Saturday, 21 December 1822
To Lord Bryon,

Alas, you inquire again of the Mysteries of the Cahills. What can I tell you of this ancient Labyrinth? I can only reveal to you what I have revealed to you before. The knowledge you seek lies within the Frankenstein that I have given to you, and only you. As I write this, my fingers itch to warn you. My dear friend, do not travel further into this Maze of secrets. It can come to no good.

You and I have seen enough sadness in our lifetimes, why meddle with these dangerous affairs? Your Poetry is more worthy of your attention. Your Lyrics are so delightful. Why bother with all this Cahill nonsense? Focus once again on your Lordship's gift, your Poetry, for this is what you were born to do.

I look forward to your Lordship's manuscript. And I pray upon the Stars that you step away from the Web that I am woven in. For your safety's sake, I beseech you. As you read these words, I hope that your day is flooded with light and happiness.

Adieu.

Yours,

Mary S.

This seems a little odd to me as he was a known leader of the Janus branch she was a member of, yet the tone of this letter leaves me with the impression she did not know he was. Dunno

3. In the above letter I have underlined several words that did not need to be capitalized. Dunno

4. The same year that Shelley published Frankenstein, Byron published the poem Beppo in which a Venetian woman is reunited with her long lost husband, who was enslaved after being lost at sea then later freed, during Carnival. That's very interesting............

5. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus
There are two different myths, Greek and Latin, discuss Prometheus and the creation of man. The idea being the rebellion against the laws of nature.
Wikipedia wrote:
Prometheus' relation to the novel can be interpreted in a number of ways. The Titan in the Greek mythology of Prometheus parallels Victor Frankenstein. Victor's work by creating man by new means reflects the same innovative work of the Titan in creating humans. Victor, in a way, stole the secret of creation from God just as the Titan stole fire from heaven to give to man. Both the Titan and Victor get punished for their actions. Victor is reprimanded by suffering the loss of those close to him and having the dread of himself getting killed by his creation.

and

Quote:
The book can be interpreted[citation needed] as a criticism of man's failure to consider the potential consequences of his actions, or inaction.

What do I think the tie to gold and Frankenstein is?
Rumplestiltskin. Check out the message on the front of card 65 and http://www.the39clues.com/cahillweb/article/65-brothers-grimm and then look at #5 above again.

Maybe it all amounts to nothing, but then again who knows?????

Re: Fiske Cahill is the MIB
Further evidence found to support this basis

I fully agree with this idea. I get the feeling the elusive Madrigals are the Cahills, a combination of the four branches and their talents. All the Cahill cards are black. Cahill cards 61, 62, 64, and 67 all have something to do with the four branches.
/quote] I'm sure you noticed in Card 67 the 4 branches aren't the only 1's that built Subway Tunnels.

Yes I did notice the unlabeled 'black' line for the subway. I also noticed that on the stolen archive file for that card the Lucian sketch of their proposed lines show a black line in place, and underneath that on the minutes document for the meeting you can see a black line as well. Interesting that the black line is there before any other line is in place.

New wiki

Hey everyone,

There is a new 39 clues wiki someone made...

http://39clues.wikia.com/

It's new, but I'm going to write some articles for it. Might be a good place to store all the information we have. Check it out.

I see no reason to devote my time to that wiki, when Bruce's wiki already has faaaAaR more information.

If you read the rest of the thread, or used the search, you would see that coocooboy is the only one that knows cheats here. I think he mentioned how. was it cheatengine? And besides, why did you quote Maggie's post when it had nothing to do with yours?

If you put in 39C in search, I think you will find what you are looking for.

I think the request for cheats is pretty sad. I don't necessarily think that the request is malicious, just that that's the way the kids play now.

Back when we played Atari, there were no 'cheats'. With Nintendo, you started to see them - combinations on the keypad might get you more money, unlimited lives, etc. Those added to the fun at times, but led people to expect that they could beat each game with little work.

With Myst, and all of the other games, you could easily find walk-throughs, and answers to all of the tough parts/puzzles to the game. Remember when we first played Zork? There were no walk-throughs, no cheats - you had to solve that game on your own. You actually got a feeling of accomplishment when you finished.

Couple that with the fact that every little leaguer gets a trophy, whether or not they win, we've got kids with attitudes that they get what they want, without earning it...

So I doubt Stewman was looking to get 1000000 points like the hackers, he probably just wanted some hints, etc. to climb the leaderboard - 'cause, well, he deserves it...

Stewman, keep trying to improve your games - getting better is what you need to strive for, not some artificially inflated score to move you up the leaderboard.

Episode 1 Prizes

I heard from other students at school that Scholastic are holding back on Episode prizes. This seems to frustrate few kids whom I talked to. They mention that the 39Clues page wording about winners "Are Eligible", or "Could Win" simply means Scholastic had no intention from the start to award anything to winners of Episode games.

As far as I know, no winners claim they have been contacted by Scholastic thus far.

Any comments or info?

I wouldn't worry at this early stage. It's only 9 days into the new year. The lawyers probably didn't get in to work until Monday or Tuesday. I'm sure Scholastic is making every effort to make the contest fair for everyone involved. I am sure scholastic will do their best to honor all promises ( 34 winners in the book sweepstakes, 26 winners in the mission sweepstakes, and 3 winners in the episode contest, plus separate contests in Singapore, Malaysia, & Australia)

I'm also convinced that things will run smoother after they get a few episodes under their belt.

Re: Episode 1 Prizes

I hope you are right. The rules say that a parent have one week to respond or the prize will be void. And the prize was supposed to be granted January 2nd.

I am not sure though if how Scholastic will handle different counties. Do people indicate what country they are from when they create a new account? Maybe this is what's taking some time at Scholastic's end
