I have good eyesight and (I've forgotten who said it) it is facing different to be the Tomas Crest.
The blue tinge is above it.
Also, one person in the gondola is facing the shop.

Adding on to Rusty, I see another crest above the pole, and a "big bad Wolf" directly below the fsaucer on the right. There's more, but not quite sure yet. 2 things I'm curious about: I can't find a reflection of who is taking the picture. The other: Disco Volante is the only thing written in Italian, everything else is English.

the phrase "disco volante" is understandable also in Spanish, just to make a point and it refers most of the time to UFO's

I was wondering about the photographer as well. Could be that person in the gondola. Doesn't it look like he/she has his/her hands up to his/her face as if holding a camera?

Another thought... the text states that "Janus agents enter the store, but are rarely seen to exit." That got me to thinking about where I had heard of Janus before. I think it was in a Percy Jackson novel (The Labyrinth?). I couldn't recall exactly what Janus was the god of, so I googled. From wiki:
Quote:
In Roman mythology, Janus (or Ianus) was the god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings and endings
So, Disco Volante could be a doorway to a secret passage!

public library

I was wondering if you have the book in your public libraries? I've just checked ours here, and we don't have it. My daughter's school doesn't have it either. I've read a few posts on kids forums that said they borrowed it from the library. Have any of you tried that?

My county library has 20 copies, but they are all checked out. The waiting list is 8 people long (down from 40). So instead I got the audiobook CD. They only have 10 copies of it, but no waiting list right now. As a matter of fact, I might check it out again and listen to it a second time. (I'll try to transcribe the "secret tapes" at some point)

Do the library books have the cards in them? Just curious because we don't have them here and Like I said, I read a forum post where a kid said she used hte code and got 6 cards.
It's goood to hear of such a waiting list! That means kids are reading!

That MAkes complete sense because remember that rick riordan wrote percy jackson and the olympians which is all about that stuff

it makes sense they would stick somthin in like that and plus this was basically made to get kids to read and learn about history in a fun cool way

I don't believe the library books have cards in them. I know the audio book does not. It's possible that the library you speak of bought regular editions, instead of Library editions, and the kid was the first one to try the code.

I bought a library and regular edition, and the library edition does not have any cards. There is also no card codes in teh book at all (sharable or otherwise). The main difference is the binding is more sturdy on the library edition, and there is not a "window" on the front cover where the cards are located (instead it is just a normal cover that has the picture of the back of card 3, which is visible through the window of the regular version).

To be clear, there is no DJ on the library book (something I was supprised of).

Hope this helps

My surveillance camera codes are 22FC46MJX2 and 237DRWJJX2... use them and pass them on!

Disco Volante

Please forgive me if I'm repeating something someone else has already come up with - I too gloss VERY RAPIDLY over the posts which dissect the missing / erroneous print cards....

Did a quick google on Disco Volante, followed someone else's mention of Mr Bungle and came up with the fact that Mr Bungle's Disco Volante album has a secret track on it, The Secret Song, also known as The Spy Song apparently located between tracks 3 & 4 Wink

Also re the surveillance card sharing thing, I didn't word my original question properly so it came out giving the wrong impression, but to re-iterate: What is the point of sharing? i.e. what REALLY happens. I wonder if we won't find out until later. My initial thought was that we would be planting bugs everywhere the cards were shared, maybe to our advantage, maybe to our disadvantage. But hey, either way, I look on it as great fun. I do wonder if there is a connection with the other spying device, the audio pen bug...

Finally, returning back to Venice, I haven't been able to come up with a Google result connecting Venice & Disco Volante with Mary Shelley's valuable Frankenstein manuscript. Maybe significant is the fact that like Houdini's poster, some text stands out from the rest. In Shelley's case, "the dreams of forgotten alchymists" (again with the alchymists...)

again mr bungle is a punk band with some pretty foul lyrics ( I know I've been a fan for many year )
I don't think schoolastic would hide a clue or a lead to a clue in a cd that kids shouldn't even be listening to.

I feel pretty dumb.

Ive just been looking at the cards, and I finally realized (after what 2 months) that all the people from them weren't in the first book. Do you think they will come up in the next two?
What a daft thing to hit me today. I just could not see what was in front of my face because I have been so busy trying to find "hidden" secrets. Embarassed

I don't necessarily think that all the people from the cards will end up in the books, because of the fact that not all the clues will be in the books.
