What a daft thing to hit me today. I just could not see what was in front of my face because I have been so busy trying to find "hidden" secrets. Embarassed
That's OK, and although I'm not a good role model for my kids, I think I write for all those in this forum. Your comments, insights, theories, etc. are more than well appreciated. Thank you. What are you hiding? Are you a Lucian?

Too funny. When I took the test and made an account that is exactly what I am. But then, here's my secret, I played around answering the questions to get one account for each branch. That was hard. I'm not very good at lying Cool

Me hiding something, no way. Just spending a lot (way to much) time looking at cards!

I'll tell you something else I've noticed today. On 39clues.com, the cards scroll past right? The x-ray card is missing. All the rest are there. Minus the 400 cards. If you do a print screen you can open it up under paint, and if you fiddle with the image, you can almost read it. I wonder if Scholastic will change the images for the next set of cards. Something to watch for.

I've just ordered the audiobooks from Amazon. So sometime in January I'll have another surveillance code (Hmmm, should I share? Smile ) The blip says there is some extra material on hte cd that is not in the book. After I listen to them, I will post it here. If someone can tell me how to attach a word document. (I am sure I'll end up doing it at work and it's better if I'm caught with a document open rather than a chat room window Wink ) I ordered both book 1 and 2 CD's together, so it will take some time to get here.

I've read lots of complaints today about the cost of the card packs (google searching again). But if you think about it, I had to buy 6 packs to get all of them. And that was only because I didn't see Maggie selling them until after I made the purchase. My last two packs were bought for 3 cards and in one of those packs I got the 60. Now my doubles I gave to a friends kid, and he paid me back half the cost. (Not very nice of me since I kept the x-ray card-but his son ended up with a full set too). The trading card idea isn't bad if kids do it. All told, I don't think the cost of the card packs is that bad either. And when you think about it, there are 9 months between card pack releases so 6 sets over 9 months is not too shabby.

Tower Voice 1: Hey, Jim, There's an unidentified plane on the panel.
Tower Voice 2: No information?
TV1: Just a tail number
R618GC But no destination or pilot name.
TV2: It's probably just an oversight. But get the pilot on the radio.
TV1: 618GulfCharlie. 618GulfCharlie, this is Inverness control please respond on 122.6

TV1: 618GulfCharlie, 618GulfCharlie. Respond immediately on 122.6

TV2: 618GulfCharlie. Please squawk your transponder. You need to reset it, so information appears. We can't identify you.
[1:05]
GC: It's for the best.
TV2: Who is this? Simon, check who the plane is registered to.
TV1: I got it. N618GC is register to Grace M. Cahill. The plane is called 'The flying lemur.'
TV2: Is this Grace Cahill?
GC: Yes, but you really can't tell anyone you spoke to me. If the Ekats find out, we'll all be in trouble.
TV2: What's an Ekat?
GC: All you need to know is that they have a talent for make people disappear. Have you heard of the Bermuda Triangle?
TV1: Ms. Cahill, I'm beginning to lose my patience.
TV2: Simon call security. Tell them we have code…
GC: Wait. If this gets out, it's going to …
[2:00]
GC: I know how they operate? I urge you not to call security.
TV2: We can't let an unidentified plane wander in and out of our air space. Tell me your destination, and we can try to work this out.
GC: Are you recording this conversation?
TV2: It's standard procedure
GC: Then I really can't say. You have no idea what kind of people will be after you.
TV2: Does this have anything to do with the mafia?
GC: Hardly. My family is much more dangerous.
TV1: How much damage can one old lady's family really do
GC: My family has been involved in every assassination for 400 years.
TV2: Are you taking a Mickey?
TV1: Jim, maybe we should call the therapist they use during hostage situations.
GC: I'm 20 miles away from my destination. By the time you contact anyone, I'll be long gone.
TV2: You're not staying in Scotland?
[3:00]
GC: I'm dropping a package off for a friend, and then I'll be on my way.
TV2: You flew your own plane to Scotland to hand deliver a package? What is it?
GC: Something I can't declare on the customs form at the local post office.
TV2: Fine, 618GulfCharlie, please commence a holding pattern while flight control decides how to proceed.
GC: I can't do that. My errand is rather time-sensitive. I have to leave my package and get out before anyone realizes that I was here. You have no idea what is at stake.
TV2: You Cahill's seem to keep a lot of secrets.
<static>
TV2: Come in 618GulfCharlie. 618GulfCharlie please respond
GC: I was too late. They knew what I was doing.
TV1: What? Who? Those Ekat people?
GC: Or the Lucians.
TV2: What's a Lucian?
[4:00]
GC: They did something to my plane
<crash>
GC: Oh No!
TV1: The flying Lemur has dropped below ten thousand feet. Way below.
TV2: 618GulfCharlie? 618GulfCharlie? You are cleared for emergency landing. Proceed immediately to runway 4B.
GC: It's too late. I can't believe it's going to end like this. They don't have a chance. They are going to destroy each other.
TV1: Who's going to destroy each other.
GC: You will have to cover up my crash. No one can investigate it.
TV1: No one is crashing. Just tell us what's going on, and…
GC: There goes the landing gear. Drat those Ekats.
TV2: Simon, call James. Tell him we've got a code…
GC: Don't tell anyone.
Oooh. That might just work.
Wooooohoo
TV2: 618GulfCharlie? Are you there? 618GulfCharlie, 618GulfCharlie Respond. On 122.6
[5:00]
<electrical>
TV1: That's not good.
TV2: Her transponder went off.
TV1: Where could she have gone?
TV2: I'm not sure.
618GulfCharlie, come in. 618GulfCharlie, do you copy. 618GulfCharlie….

Will they send those to HK? I can't get US postage stamps here. Sad I think that option is closed to me.

I think it is implied that her daughter is Lucian, wouldn't it stand to reason that she is too? Using that logic, wouldn't Amy and Dan be as well? I'm basing this on a gut feeling right now. My notes/cards/book are at work so I can't verify my hunches.

I've gone through my cards and the site a bunch and every time I think I might have it a little more figured out (Dan & Amy's family branch) I find something else that pushes that little inclination back away again.

Dan is very similar to his dad who was an archeologist (collector of stuff, just much older things than Dan could normally get) and both seemed a bit obsessed with ninjas.

Amy is highly bookish, which it appears there's evidence that her mother was too with the notes that she'd written in the Poor Richard's Almanac.

So far, the only solid evidence we really have just points out the kids as being like their parents.

Here's one reason: "Apparently, Hope used some connection with the State Department. If I didn't know better, I'd say she was some sort of ex-spy!"
taken from: http://www.the39clues.com/cahillweb/article/prominent-archaeologist-and-humanitarian-dies-in-tragic-fire
But then I suppose it could be used to say she's part of the Ekats because she was an archeologist.

Like I said, right now it's a gut feeling.

But wouldn't it be a hoot if they were Magril's. reading the post of the secret tapes, she grace couoldn't be a lucian or a Ekat. Who knows.

heh, methinks by the end of this round (Dec 31), if the scoreboard isn't hacked by then, we'll be seeing a lot of 100% scores from people who dedicate their lives to mastering each game Razz

checking the wording for the prizes (Canadian rules here):

* Episode Prizes
The top point scorer for a 39 Clues Episode (that's one Book, one Mission, and other online activities) wins $1,000! There are ten episodes and ten chances to win!

* Grand Prize
Collect all 39 Clues and be one of the top 39 point scorers, and you can compete for the $10,000 grand prize!

Seems to be a different wording there... granted this wouldn't be the legal outline of how winners are chosen, but the episode prize seems to indicate a skill-based win where the top scorer wins (what if there's a tie?) whereas the grand prize sounds more like a draw (which I'm assuming is the legal, correct, sweepstakes way of awarding the prize).
haven't re-checked the legal rules document for winner selection yet...

eta:
Quote:
6. Determination of Winners. The winners will be chosen in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received.

that would seem to trump the wording of the "episode prize"

also remember, eligible winners must be between 6 and 14 years of age Wink
