[INFO] [PRESS] Cloverfield article in Maxim

Sorry I couldn't get a clearer picture, however I typed up the article instead, for those interested. Nothing new, really.

THE BLAIR WITCH 2.0
Lost mind-tripper J.J. Abrams talks about his big-screen beast.

The best thing about Transformers wasn't Megan Fox's washboard abs, but a preview that screened beforehand. The jumpy camcorder footage of a monster attacking Manhattan was far scarier than the 'bots--even though the monster was never shown. So began one of the sneakiest marketing campaigns since the Blair Witch started rustling around in the woods. (At press time the movie's official title was allegedly Cloverfield.) "The idea is to surprise people," says producer Abrams, no stranger to pulling fast ones over on crowds. "This is a monster movie, but you've definitely never seen it done this way." In other words, the entire movie, like the preview, is shot as if the characters were holding the camera themselves. "The scope is massive, but it's always very human--and more intense and scary because of that perspective." The real question: Can the flick live up to the insane Internet hype? Yes, says Abrams: "The creature is as shocking and unexpected as the preview." -- Robert Levine

EDIT: This is the issue of Maxim with Mischa Barton on the cover. I have a subscription, so I get it early. No idea when it'll be on stands. (probably a week)

Laughing Lil's cleavage must have put Cloverfield on their radar screen.

That is an interesting quote from JJ, though. He feels we'll be truly shocked by the creature. Well, I don't think we'd be truly shocked by some Godzilla-like, dinosaur type of creature, would we? So what would be truly shocking and unexpected?

Well, it's only unexpected if nobody calls it before it's shown, so in order for him not to be lying we need to list everything that we could possibly think of and hope that they read the list and think of something we didn't.

Very Happy

Smile that articles pretty good and I love what JJ said that the monster will be shocking! his genius should have something interesting cooked up! I no way expect a zilla type beast! it could be bi-pedal but i think thats where the zillaness? (oh I made a new word) will end.

Haha. The thought of a humanoid creature (from the fake review) sounds OK. I haven't given much thought to what the monster could be. I want to be completely surprised when I see it, whether it's at the theater on the 18th or (more likely) online. It's been insinuated ever since the Jamie video that Tagruato has been making the monster by hand. So unless they're going the Jurassic Park route, that takes eliminates the dinosaur theory, which is what the monster actually looks like so far.

It's funny that in this ARG/E there's more interesting things to speculate on than the monster itself which you think would take center stage. From this article, I get the feeling that was intended all along. Good show, Jabrams.

so this quote by JJ (assuming its legit work done by maxim) proves that we will actually see the monster. so all theories that say we wont see it at all go in the bin.

I was thinking the same thing. However, I do believe it's legit. It's a month before the film comes out, it's not out of the realm of possibility to assume that Abrams himself is doing some press. I'm excited about seeing the monster, if that is in fact what he's saying.

Yes, and it's tough to be truly shocking. If it's in any way reptilian, everyone will just say "Oh, it's another Godzilla.". If it's humanoid (e.g., the long missing and now mutated Noriko Yoshida), then it's just a variation on "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman". An alien? Been done. Of course, you could apply variations to these themes that might make them truly shocking and unexpected, so who knows?
