Could be apart of the Craigslist post, but this one for people in San Fransisco and not New York...If I get a chance I'll check it out, most likely wouldn't find anything by now anyways. Expired posts are usually takin down by the poster on that site.

I think you are right. I think this is all part of a larger street marketing campaign. I've found some photos of promotional postcards with the same slogan "What is Cloverfield?". They look like they are meant to be handed out or maybe placed on cars. There are also mini-posters with the slogan "What Is It?" for flyposting.
