[INFO] IMDB forum re:slusho shirts...

someone in this thread---
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/board/flat/81859167?p=2

said their shirt ordered from Slusho came wrapped in this Japanese paper. Notice any familiar names in the pic?

http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x220/matt11matt11/?action=view&current=n79700619_30285484_9982.jpg

he provides more shots of the paper in the IMDB thread.

Yes, and that pic is Hideki Matsui, Left Fielder for the NY Yankees. When he was playing for the Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo he earned the nickname "Godzilla."

I'm not saying that it's unconnected, but the Japanese press has been covering Matsui very heavily since the Yankees first signed him, and it's led to Japanese advertising all over Yankee Stadium.

Well... that it somewhat interesting. Yankees and Godzilla on the same page. Obviously this is just a coincidence, not like Slusho would try and put a little tongue in cheek humour into all of this!!! Wink

"Hideki "Godzilla" Matsui (松井 秀喜, Matsui Hideki?, born June 12, 1974) is a Japanese Major League Baseball left fielder who plays for the New York Yankees. He bats left-handed and throws right-handed."

wish people would read

and its japanese kanji text, not chinese...

Interesting. What would be telling is whether all package recipients received the same (or very similar) sheets of newspaper with their orders. If not, it's probably coincidence.

They really went balls-to-the-wall with the effort and detail put into this ARG.

EDIT: Just checked my package tracking, it was delivered. I'll provide an update when I get home.

My order came in the mail today; And like many others, it came with some Japanese newspaper articles.

Though my package was not wrapped in it. When I opened one end of the box, it was sitting at the top, and had been tri-folded. I figured that was it, but after looking in the box, noticed that on the other end, was another half article tri-folded.

I included some UBER CRAPPY camera phone pictures here:
http://projectcloverfield.com/2007/08/09/slusho-shirt-delivered-with-possible-cluegag/

I thought it was a nice touch, to give it more realism... And slightly humorous in regards to including the "Godzilla in USA" bit since that was the only English portion Wink

It's an obvious gag. But because this forum is so thick everybody will over examine this in like 20 different threads.

I got my slusho shirt today as well, wrapped in Japanese newspaper. Not much english on the page, and I don't read Japanese. The paper is dated 7/25/2007 and I got the top half of pages 17-22. Oddly, pages 17-20 were printed on different paper (much whiter) than pages 21-22 (much greyer/yellower, more like American newsprint).

However, there was what looked like an op/ed or special interest piece column called (conspicuously in English letters) - "Samurai Voice" written by Yumiko Hashimoto. It stood out because the words "Samurai Voice" and "Yumiko Hashimoto" were the only thing not in Japanese characters on the whole page. There is also the number (1868) - printed just like that, in parenthesis - stuck in the article. This was on page 21, BTW, which was one of the pages that looked like it was printed on a different kind of paper.

There is also a pic of a screenshot from a website on page 21, the URL is www.jal.co.jp/happiness/ but this appears to be a legit promotion from Japan Airlines and unrelated to anything in-game (at least at first glance).

Absolutely everything else is in Japanese characters, so I can't make heads or tails of it. Maybe the photos have some significance though, so I'll try to find a way to upload them.

I have not been keeping up the past couple of weeks, so I'm honestly not sure if this has some significance.

Extrasonic, there is no doubt in my mind that this really doesn't have in clues in it... But rather was used to give Slusho more authenticity that it's a Japan-based company.

I mean, would it have been any more cool if the people was in English, but featured Japanese atheletes/news material?

It just gives you more realism, then anything else to be completely honest.

And was yours really "wrapped" as you say it is? My invoice/tshirt came in a plastic bag, but the newspaper articles were just put in before the plastic bag, and after it. Wouldn't call it "wrapped," rather just put into the box.

I have to disagree with Riane.

In Lost, they had a lot of clues given out where they used a different language to hide it. In a Sun and Jin episode you can see Hurley on TV in a Korean news show. The show had Korean writing at the bottom. It was overlooked by most, but some went in and got high resolution screen capture found out that Hurley was a millionaire.

Because of JJ's past with teasers, marketing and such, I believe there could be some good stuff in that paper especially if multiple people were getting the same page.
