Begin the game

Can someone tell me how to begin the game?

I registed, have my sign-in name and password,
watched the countdown,
now I get the small video

where do we sign in? how do we get started?

the register link just had the enrollment form

Edited: The video I get is a guy working in an office, a SUV drives up and a guy wearing a hoodie gets out, goes in the building, carrying some weapon. He enters the office and raises the weapon as to kill him.

Edited: The only thing I see other than that is a possible blinking code in the countdown box - but I still can't find a sign-in anywhere

now what do we do?

Edited: Finally found the link - it wasn't showing or I had to erase my cookies or something, but it finally appeared.

Instructions:

Kara will find me
a book must be found (original book of history)
book could be used for evil
others are looking for it - they will stop at nothing to get the book
Research has already been done, and is at the wiki, but it is password protected
must get the access code from a poster named
"Heros wanted poster" - you will know it when you see it.
fate of the world hangs on me Shocked

new email:

Quote:
The search for the lost Book of History begins right now.

Last night, Professor David Abraham mysteriously disappeared.

It is believed that his disappearance is linked to his search for one of the original Books of History. Books with unimaginable power to create and destroy simply by writing in them. David may have found one of the Books.

Apparently, someone else knows this. Someone who wants the Book at all cost. We must recover the Book before it falls into the wrong hands.

Go to booksofhistory.com for further instructions. Right now, others like you are gathering to join the search.

Each moment you wait carries us one step away. We must find this Book.

We cannot fail.

they're pretty transparent about the sponsor and firm behind it and whatnot, so don't expect a curtain Razz

Poster

Well, I found the poster and the password, but unfortunately:

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): User booksofhistory has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections in /var/www/vhosts/booksofhistory.com/httpdocs/Connections/connBOH.php

Don't think I can sit and wait too long.

PHONE CALL!!

So. Damn. Excited.

Did anyone else get that call from a 615 number? I'm off to the website now! Looks like this will be an unproductive work day. Very Happy

And to think I almost didn't answer.

Letter

I don't have time to sort out all the passwords, but there is a letter online that needs a password, and the password is in the photos.

Here is a link to both the letter and the photos (and the poster). Still can't get into the wiki though:

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=booksofhistory

http://paradisesage.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/circle-letter.pdf (there is a clue that the password is in the photos somewhere)

This is where I got it from:

heh, yip, I got it in canada too... not a lot of corporate US-hosted campaigns will cross borders, so I almost didn't answer either; but I had a twinge of hope Smile nothing new in thecall anyway, same intro info from the email and on the site.

...in the process of trying to get to the site, but it seems they (as typical) underestimated traffic. Something got fudged...

I got the phone call too, although I was expecting it be some state's Authorities looking for the person who had my cell number before me. =]

So what the heck exactly are we doing? I'm not able to view the YouTube video on the site (the last post of the professor) ... a little help?

ok well here's what I've done in a nutshell...

* go to booksofhistory.com
* jump to the contest page (login)
* read the story so far
* watch the message from david abraham (ref: youtube profile)
* watch for the clue, and go to the next stage: find the password to enter the IG wiki, by piecing together the images that form the BoH poster
* read up the info in the wiki - about David Abraham, the Books of History, Project Showdown, Ted Dekker, Sin City Research (and David Abraham's journal extract, PDF), and the X Group.
* from David (DA)'s journal, you're led to info on Miles Huntley, and his site bookyworm.com, where you find some tragic news, and the newspaper article to go with it
* the article contains possible lead info for "Francesco Miller" (craigslist/ebay)

the details of all these people I'll let you read up yourself Smile

seems there's some very deep story going on here, and I'm really excited for the potential... even though there's a contest, and it's a game, and it's all pretty transparent, this story feels very meta, in the sense that.. kind of like a story where the characters find out that what they thought was fiction is actually real. That is, Ted Dekker is considered an author and historian, as though he's a character himself... lots of reference to writing, and stories, and while it's a meta-perspective, it's very much a theme in the game itself. Blurring the lie, to say the least Smile

So far the content seems pretty quality. Methinks Ted Dekker and his team have been doing a lot of studying on ARGs, if not fans of the genre themselves.

The forums are a bit of a mess at the moment; sme comment timestamps got messed up and some of the functions are shaky... but they just launched it this morning, so I'm willing to give them some time to work out the kinks Wink

DA's "failsafe": http://paradisesage.wordpress.com/

A good reference point for "up until now" information: http://www.kaylanah.blogspot.com/

Yes, I wish I would have seen the Kaylanah blog 2 hours ago Smile

I can tell this is going to take some time, it looks like it could be fun, and who couldn't use a car?

I just found this on Craigslist:

http://denver.craigslist.org/bks/596684734.html

Posted yesterday so it's probably background, but still, a fun find. =]

ETA: The flickr pictures for user:booksofhistory also provide the passcode for the locked document up at Paradise Sage's blog:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the numbered pictures in the non-poster section have numbers in them themselves that make the passcode: 423300

I'm in the process of reading Red (book 2 of the Circle trilogy) so it's great to see the theme of the novels (and specific characters) still used here... there's a bit of spoiler for me, but it's pretty sweet that this is really flowing in Dekker's universe. He's created a series of books all based in the same theme. I was considering skipping to Chosen and Infidel, but I think I'm going to have to read the whole series, not just the Black/Red/Write trilogy.

Ok this one is exciting and deep. I am new to these games, only participated in the Covet one last winter.

Read and followed all the clues. Just read David's letter to the Friends of the Circle. I think the next step is tracking down Denver bookstore owner Frank Miller that bought the books that survived the fire. David says in the letter that he will be out of the country until next week. The article about the bookstore fire says "Miller plans to sell the books on eBay." Checked there. No listing yet.

David says Kara (who needs the book or one of them to get back to the "other" world) will be contacting us.

That's what I have so far. Whew this one is getting deep, but fun.
