I finally joined just so I could add to the confirmation that the image is actually of Bugbuzun from Ultraman Nexus (and that video that was posted is actually Bugbuzun Golar, even though it says otherwise). I don't know much about Ultraman, this is just a bit of quick research. But anyway, here's a good head-on image of Bugbuzun that would put to rest the slightest bit of doubt about the origin of the original image:

Still a bit curious as to why the monster in the video has claw like arms where as the OP has more Godzilla arms. The artist probably just made some changes to fit in with CF.
If you read the block of text you quoted, you'll find your answer:

It's Bugbuzen's evolved form, Bugbuzen Blade (or "Blude" as spelled here. Wacky Japanese). Note the only differences are the blade arms and extra spikes, but that pic at the start of the convo is just fanart of Bugbuzen's original form.
The video is of the final form of the monster, the one that matches the OP exactly he couldn't find a clip of.
Heh. Reading ftw.

Nice find! It looked like there was to many parts to the monster compared to the trailer clip anyway to be Mr. Grumpypants.

I must say though, that Bugbuzun creature fit a LOT of speculation we had, and it wasnt even designed for Cloverfield.
Amazing coincidence I think.

LOL...I knew someone would find out where that fake pic came from.
It was only a matter of time.

So did Bugbuzun use all those extra limbs? It looks like someone didn't know when to stop adding them.

It fits speculation that it's an amalgamation of many creatures (as this thing is), including have a turtle shell and other exoskeletal parts. It is bipedal but yet it's got more limbs than just a humanoid would. This is a 'please-everyone' sort of fulfillment - which is why it was so easily accepted.

Upon further investigation, it shows that the two trolled link connecting the image to Ultraman is vaugely false
If one will observed the details and depth of the styleguide design, it doesnt show exact similarity for both the video and photo shared
Another finding I see here is that the moderators will just "conclude" and immediately consider this as a fan art without further investigating the difference.
I still stand that this is the closest I saw to the monster of Cloverfield.
I am not concluding but I got a huge amount of feeling that this is the closest to the real thing!
And Yeah... I read and checked every single responses made in this thread (15pages). Nay or Yay! I still think this is the closest one out there!
I think the two post below are "doubtful" due to their lack of presence and single post findings

THAT IS NOT THE CLOVERFIELD MONSTER.
IT IS A MONSTER FROM THE "ULTRAMAN NEXUS" SERIES, CALLED "BUGBUZEN."
This is the only video of the beastie I could find online.

So this cant be the monster because its supposed to be original. But then again ive never even heard of this so it would be original to most of us.
Good Find

the picture looks like a midget's arm (typical sentai creature design) and if you take a look at the OP's design its not close as the photo shared

also another sentai design. Of course the drawing is going to have much longer arms, that's how they wanted the creature to look, but in reality- that's the best they could do.

I suppose we can expect the trolls (and those who support them) to become more and more prevalent the closer we get to the movie's release.

but then again, who knows? the answer might be this or might be not.
Only 01-18-08 time will tell.
But for moderators and fellow members like us to judge immediately is a an unfair treatment (just my two cents)
