That looked awfully professional to me. Too bad it was FAKE. This could easily be the same.

EDIT: Link to actual picture stand-alone and higher definition. http://wayangtopia.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/cloverfield-monster-picture.jpg

I can't speak for the validity of the image, but it looks really well done without a hint of being a hack job.

However, if you were looking for "evidence" against, I should mention that style guides for shows, movies and so forth and extremely manipulable by nature, with lots of easily edited layers. And this image definitely fits the current trends in a lot of the style guides you'd see for VH1/MTV shows and whatnot -- which makes a small piece of me believe that it's simply a wonderfully crafted edit.

Overall, I have no idea whether it's legit or not. Smile

That overly posted fan art looks better than this new one. I'd rather that be the monster than this new one.

It's not legit until he gives us a source. If we have nothing to investigate, than we have no case.

It's like having a murder weapon that's never been used. It's not a murder weapon.

I also can't shake the feeling that I've seen this monster before, in toy form.

Text may not be something we would be familiar with.

(For quick reference on some common text.)

(For something I thought was a stretch....Hebrew maybe?)

Can't say with custom fonts. Still say "Rawwr" though...-_-...

I hope this isn't bullshit, because that monster does not let my eyes down at all. It looks absolutely amazing. I have a feeling it might be fake but if it's not then I'm happy. But what I'm not happy about is that IT WAS SPOILED.

Fucking hell, this may have just ruined the whole movie for me.

Oh well.

It looks nowhere near as amazing as some of the other things i've seen... in fact, it looks quite ugly, which is why i'm hoping it's not MGP.

And yes. Spoiled like 50 year-old milk.

Now that the initial shock has worn off...I'm going to hedge my bets and say...it's not real. I just can't figure out why they would even need the monster -- especially a full reveal in cartoony style -- as part of a style guide which is used to market and promote a movie that's so reliant on its mystery. What would this image actually be used for?!

And now that I think about it some more, an insect-like monster like this would fit the "roar". The roar from the website sounds like a lowered and slowed version of the sound hissing cock roaches...

Something tells me there is a fair amount of legitimacy to this.

I'm leaning towards this being fake, because the monster is TOO perfect.

Things to note:

The claws are PERFECTLY matched to the damage on the SoL in the poster. Too perfect.

This thing cannot swim, at least not at the speeds the evidence points to MGP pulling.

It appears to factor in every single piece of monster spec ever posted. I see insect parts, crab, whale, lobster, and the whole stance and overall body shape suggest a strong throwback to Godzilla.

The CLOVERFIELD text, although nice, is NOT the font used on the official poster. It's a good imitation, but there are notable differences.

And finally, I just can't see them tossing out the monster like this...it just doesn't sit right with me.

On the other hand, if it is real, then all my desires are fulfilled. That is one freaky ass monster.

I actually hoped that guy was the Cloverfield monster. Upsetting to find out it was bullcrap.
