I still think the most purplexing thing in the trailers is the expanding girl. As much as it looks to me she splits down the middle in the front (in order to get the level of separation of chest features), you'd expect to see things flying out of her or dropping to the ground in that case. Very troublesome.

Yup, I'm still not sure exactly what we're seeing, she's still dressed though, you can see the thin strips of her black top hanging down around the arms, so her grey top could be holding everything in Confused

A little observation on the monster's size.

Obviously, the monster is huge, and at least big enough to rip off the head of the Statue of Liberty. In the 2nd trailer, we can see that what appears to be it's hip reach either 1/4th or half of the Woolworth building. I'm not an American, and I never heard of the Woolworth building before, so I'm not that familiar with it's features, though from what I saw it appears to be either of those two.

Now comes the interesting part. The Woolworth building is 792ft/241 meters high while the Statue of Liberty is 151ft/46.5 meters high. So going by that, the monster must be somewhere between 151ft/46.5m (1/4th, which is also close to the height of the SoL) and 396ft/120.5m high (half of the Woolworth). And that's just the leg area(?), if my hunch is correct.

And just for fun, the height stats of Godzilla from his Wiki page:

Quote:
Height 50[1]-100[2] meters (164 - 328 feet)

Note: The 1 and 2 relate to the different incarnations of Godzilla, since he became twice as big in (I think) the eighties. Read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla

I think what it comes down to is that a monster that's going to colapse bulidings with a good nudge, but not simply stamp them flat has to be in a certain size range. From this there will be a lot of similarities between monsters in this class.

Actually, that 151ft measurement is JUST the statue itself. That does not count in the pedistal its sitting on. So with your calculations, the monster would have to be hovering when he hits the head off.

The actual height is...

Ground to tip of torch, 305'1", 92.99m.

Ah, read that incorrectly then. I thought they meant the pedestal when mentioning the base-to-torch ratio. Oh well, that makes Mister Grumpy Pants even bigger then. Laughing

Yea, I'm guestimating hes between 400-500 feet tall.

Possibly one of the largest movie monsters ever? Very Happy

I'm hoping so! We've seen a lot of monsters in a similar size range. It would be nice to have something setting it apart. I still love that Giant Whale Mutant concept art, something that can be very tall indeed but can also be much shorter when hunched over.

Something in one of the trailers got me thinking about that. The clip where the monster passes between the buildings, from views I had you never clearly see the start or definative end of the thing as it moves by, especially in the blown up animations. Could be a trick of the camera, or could mean that there's more than just a beast standing up. Can't wait to see. Surprised

Just a thought.. The explosion in the trailers (supposedly the oil tanker?) is possible, but the flying flaming debris wouldnt be oil barrels as tankers dont transport oil in barrels.. just several holding tanks..

In order for those to be scratchmarks on the girl, this beast would have to be laying down to reach her( a 450 foot monster dosent bend over well i'd assume) and even then, the claw size we see on the SOL would destroy a human.. I think its prolly teeth marks (we have a bite, not a scratch) from a smaller creature with smaller scratchers/teeth etc..notice there is no blood from these scratches?

That presumes it's a tanker though, there's just not enough information. There's a few structures that look like they could be fuel/oil storage within a few miles of the Statue of Liberty, but its too hard to say. Could be tanker junks / piping I suppose. We will probably be left guessing I wager.

Agree it's got to be from something smaller than Mr. Grumpypants. Now it could just be scratches from city debris. Two of the scratches look quite deep but have probably been tended to as they are indeed not bleeding. Also, the 3rd scratch doesn't seem to be in-line, so it may not be realted to the type of marks on the Statue of Liberty and buildings at all.

Someone was saying it might be soldiers on the other side of the door... but Rob looks mighty worried to me if it's just someone seeking to detain them. I think it's either a beastie, or at least Rob THINKS its a beastie.

It looked to me like it had teeth marks in it since the 5 minute preview was released. so im wondering now if it didnt try to eat it, and since it was metal, spit it out, instead of throwing it. A bitch that big could spit that far. Like us with watermelon seeds

I would buy this, except that no existing animals go as far to chew on metal. Even bears and lions won't do that. Not that this thing heeds to the laws of existing animals, but if he's going for realism, i don't think JJ would do that.
Seems like the SoL head would be kinda slobbery too Surprised

What kind of monster doesn't chew on everything it can find?

Thats exactly my thinking on this. This is something that its obviously never seen before, its totally alien to it ( and please dont take that as me saying its an alien, im meaning alien as in totally unknown, didnt want to open a whole new can of worms there) Of course it would try and see what it is, and animals and all creatures usually test things out by chewing on it. I know my cats sure do

Yeah, I think it's just regular debris that just happens to be on fire.

A 450'+ tall monster would peel a human like an onion. It's FINGERNAILS are probably Beth's size.

Well, if the monster's 500' tall, a human is 1/100th of that on average. That would be like you trying to eat a Hershey's Kiss (OK, maybe that's a bad example, but still).

Then again, there isn't a whole hell of a lot a creature of that size *would* eat. This thing probably eats whole whales for breakfast. The largest known animal on Earth, the Blue Whale, is only 1/5th his size.

I don't think MGP is wandering around eating humans. I think he's just a clumsy oaf plowing through the city like a wrecking ball.

I'm wondering if the "bite" isn't a literal, and meant only to throw us off... what if they're trying to lure the monster in to a location where he can be attacked? If so, whatever bait they use would cause the monster to "bite" and get hooked in to a trap. That might explain the massive military mobilization we see; it looks too coordinated to be just the military showing up in town and blazing away.
