[SPEC] A 450 mph monster

Assuming that thing threw the head of the SoL right in Libery Island it took it less than 40 seconds to make the roughly 5 miles in line that separate it from the Empire State Building. That means Grumpypants can make it up to 450 mph, over sea and land, that's almost as fast as a regular airliner.

I'm a little confused. How do you derive its movement speed from its pitching speed, so to speak. Or is that what you were referring to?

Yeah, but that's working on an assumption.

Though I suspect that yes, it could move somewhere around that speed, it's huge and has enormous legs.

He's saying that if you take the start point of the Statue of Liberty and time how long it takes for the monster to get from the statue to where we see it in the clip starting at the point where it throws the head then it takes 40 seconds.

It's easy, you have an starting point (Liberty Island, where the monster through the head) an ending point (Empire State Building) and the time it took for the monster to make that distance.

Otherways he'd have to made it across the Hudson carrying it somehow.

So we have 2 assumptions:

-It's really fast.

-It can carry big objects while swimming.

You choose your favourite.

There's even a third, there's not just one big.

-It tore the head off, threw it into the city, swam over, picked it up and threw it again.

Oh, I getcha... I didn't realize that in the widget it is all one scene where the head comes flying then you see the leg. I guess that means he's hauling ass. Or there's more than one large monster? Or perhaps the creators didn't even take this into consideration? Anyway, I suppose it is possible for something that big to move pretty damn fast, especially in the water.

That is NOT the Empire State Building! It's the Woolworth Building near City Hall, it looks a bit like a mini E.S.B.

I make it 2.5 miles from Liberty Island to City Hall Park, which is around where the monster is, so call it 225 mph. Smile

Oh yeah, I I keep forgetting that it's not the ESB.

Yeah, 225mph, awesome.

Just for comparison:

The fastest land animal, the cheetah, runs at a maximum of about 75 mph.

The fastest bird (in normal flight) is a species of the swift, that tops out at around 100 mph.

The fastest bird overall, however, is the peregrine falcon, hitting upwards of 200 mph in a dive.

Looks like our Grumpypants is pretty damn fast.
Oh, and these statistics might not be perfect, feel free to correct me.

Oh, I think I had red that somewhere here. If it definitely is Woolworth it's still a great loss for New York.

It definitely is, I'm not saying the E.S.B won't get toppled too though.

This is the Woolworth Building viewed from somewhere down that street

You have to account for it's size as well when accounting for distance traveled. 2.5 miles might just be a couple of steps for something as tall as a skyscraper.
