Yeah, I'm still up in the air about if it's on 2 'legs' or >2 legs.. but I agree, the first one that moves through does appear to be quite a bit smaller. Keep in mind though... this thing is a biggun and it is a decent distance between foreground leg and background leg. It honestly could be either... different size, or just perspective.

Edit: I've got to take off for now. It's been great chatting back and fourth with everyone. The last pic that you posted I think perfectly illustrates BOTH of our viewpoints... like I said from the start, I can still see your side too. Not saying I'm right, I'm just saying, this is what it could be. I'm sure I'll check here much later tonight, or at worst a day or 2 from now. I hope everyone has a great rest of their X-mas.. if that's your thing.

Cheers,
~J

Here was what I was able to cut and paste from the clips. I left out the things we cannot see (Head, hands, feet, what may be on it's back, etc.).

Yea staring at it more and more, I think I'm agreeing that it looks bipedal. In fact if I look at my own diagrams from a bipedal standpoint... the thing looks like it's sprinting very fast indeed.

Keep in mind that what we are seeing in the trailer (and forgive me for any lack of terminology) is probably a static wireframe model in the CGI... definitely NOT the final product for certain and even less likely to be the final 'model' either. All this speculation is likely over nothing since we'll probably see something entirely different on 1/18

If I cross my eyes I think I can see what he's saying about seeing the black areas as empty space. On the other hand I'm still kind of seeing them as claws. I'd think you'd see debris moving in the dark areas behind the creature. and if those are legs with the dark spaces empty space, Then the first set ahead of triangle 2, are smaller than the ones behind them, between triangle 2 and 3.

I'm starting to get more and more in the camp of crustacean, but I still don't buy bugzen, and I still think I'm seeing clawlegs, especially after watching clip 2 again, but I will have to stare at it more.

Ever since our first shot of the monster way back in the trailer, ive swear im seeing multiple necks. In the pic marked T=1 sec, im not so sure that thats an appendage coming off the top of the head , but possible a second neck or head thats being partially obscured by dust or something else. May be absolutely and spectacularly wrong, just my opinion, just putting my stuff out there for you all to trample over Drool

I gotta be honest, When I see the footage, I see it backwards from everyone else. Meaning, what you see as a leg, I see as it's arm- As if it were going backwards to see who they hell's shootin spitwads at'em. Plus- watch the "leg" movement, it doesn't correspond with the movement and pace of the body. Its almost as if the "legs" weren't even touching the ground.

Like he's jumping across the street?

EDIT: And the thing that arches back appears to be it's arm like it's trying to shield it's head (from view and from the bullets)

If that's the arm of the beast then it shows a little more realism in my opinion. Instead of a large fearless creature gallivanting through New York with an unknown vengence, it would indicate an animal that is a more true-to-life representation of what an animal would do when lost in a city. A scared animal can be just as reckless and wild as an angry one.

Or it's a leg.

Good question. Can't make out from the trailer. I always assumed it was part of the head coming down the back (kind of like the head of Geiger's Alien), but maybe something else is going on.

I'm sure this isn't it but I'm starting to wonder if it isn't something similar to this type of critter (from Konig's work)

From the pictures and video, it also looks to me like the creature is moving in a very stabilized fashion even with its knees bent. In fact, the creatures top half seems to glide across the screen. This suggests that in moving, the rear of the creature's body is not absorbing much impact with the movement as a bipedal creature would.

If I made a guess, it would be that the creature has more than 2 legs, and likely is walking on at least four legs.

Since the magic number in Cloverfield so far seems to be 6, I believe what we have is an insect of some sort...maybe a burrowing insect hybrid of sorts that walks in 4 legs and has two arms free. The rear legs of the creature look very similar in design to insect tarsomere segments.

It could be some sort of masssive prehistoric Belostomatidae. Some of the descriptions in that article are pretty scary---most painful bite known in an insect and they can liquify their meals ^_^. Also, the photo of the male carrying eggs on its back looks like it could be a foreshadowing of what our MGP has on its back to explain the little monsters.

Or picture this with massive claws and thicker scales and legs.

The nearside leg people are seeing is not a leg, it looks like a forearm, if anything, although there might be a leg directly behind it which appears a bit later.
You can only tell this from the extra frames in the widget clip, I should have a new animation soon if I can convert the dutch swf ok.

It looks like a giant rabbit.

I used to see spikes (i still see one on it's back) but the more I stared at it at full speed, backwards forwards, slowmo ad nauseum, I'm of the opinion that the trailer shows at least 1 set of legs. Especially the last few moments really look like a thigh and knee coming into view.
