Sounds like they recorded the audio in a garbage can with an 80's tape recorder

Can't say too much for Katey Rich at CinemaBlend. She talks about the trailer like it's got some great new footage, which it really doesn't.

Edit: Note also that the title has now become МОНСТРО in Russia, which translates to something like Monstro (Monstrous? Monster?). Russia was the first place the film was officially referred to as Cloverfield. Ironic, eh?

Edit the Second: The page about it is still about as blank as ever - except way off to the right a nice little link to an AVI trailer, which I'm grabbing right now.

Direct link

Hi Guys! A Russian long time lurker, first time poster here Smile
Here is the direct link to the Russian trailer:

http://filmz.ru/trailer_rus/monstro_max720_ucp.divx

20 Mb, DivX

I should say that 'Monstro" is not a word in Russian, it doesn't stand for "Monster" or "Monstrous" and it sounds as lame as in English Smile
As for the contents of the trailer, there is not much new we can glean.
Well, the caption in the first frame includes the line " phenomenon later known as Cloverfield", and in the "I saw it, it's alive" scene the monster is referred to as "he". Also no specific screenings start date is given, just 2008.Sad I don't know if they show the trailer in cinemas yet.

I think it's feasible to start a special thread dedicated to international trailers coz we could glean some additional possible spoilers from different translations much like Harry Potter fans did in their time:)

My guesses were based on the intrepid translation of Google. Please give us a more accurate translation, as I'm really curious what they did decide to call it. I still say it's ironic that the first country where the movie was named 'Cloverfield' now uses a different name.

Is gender a convention of Russian language? I know it is in Romance languages. I had previously posted the date from what I had found here:
http://www.uip-rus.ru/future/
That shows us the 24th of January.

I thought that was done already, but if it was it's been buried enough that I'll have to use Search to find it. Not that I'm any good at using that...
Wink
Edit: Found it!

Hi, Euchre!
Well, it's all a little bit gender-bending:)

The word "Monster" is masculine in Russian, and the "I saw it, it's alive" scene apparently takes place early in the movie and the guys just saw the GP for the first time, so they have not done any research as to its gender:) and the pronoun "he" comes natural.

Yet, if we take the title "Monstro"="Monstr"(Monster)+"o", it seems to hint at the neutral gender coz the 'o' ending indicates neutral gender in Russian. Well, of course, it may be reading too much into a title whose only raison d`etre is to create more hype through using a loud non-existing wierd word.

Very interesting! Thank you for information.
I wonder if the movie will be popular in Russia. I very hope...
