Weird he would say that in an interview. It is the basis for the poster, the teaser, the trailer etc.
Quote from interview::: "even though it's an image that is never in the film, is an image of the head of the Statue of Liberty in the street of New York and there's sort of a story that that implies.
I don't know, maybe he was talking about Escape From New York. Who could tell with the crappy ass writing on the story. Geezus, the IESB just transcribed the tape word for word. I hate that. Makes you struggle to read it.
I know these guys have to hock the show to you and I, but why don't they just shut up? He is blowing all the fun out of this.

Whoa:
Quote:
IESB: The date had played such a huge role in the advertising. Is it true that if you to see this on the day it comes out, 1-18-08, the date in the film is actually that date as well?
Reeves: No, that's not true . The date has become because, again, we didn't have the title in the teaser and so that was a way of letting people know what it was. I think the two ways people referred to the movie where by its codename, Cloverfield, because there was knowledge of that, and just by the date. The reveal is really what happens in the story and the way it unfolds and the sort of mysteries in that world. The date is just the date we come out and when everyone gets to see the movie.
Then WTF with the dates on the pics!?

The movie has to take place on Jan18th. The timestamps on the 1-18-08.com pictures clearly say 1/18/08.

Maybe he's just trying to throw us off. Rick McCullen would say all kinds of crazy things before the Star Wars movies, just to get people off the right trails. Half of what he said was either an outright lie, or only true "from a certain point of view".

That means nothing, apparently.
Some theories have officially been flushed down the toilet.

Yes, he was talking about Escape From New York .
As for the date, it does explain the 63 degrees in the teaser. Putting it on the pictures was necessary at the time to say it was IG I guess(?). Still, if what he says is true, it blows any sense of urgency in the IG universe. If false, then it's bad information, bad form, or just plain mean.

Yeah, I figured the 1-18-08.com dates weren't timestamps a looooong time ago. That forever explains the whole "63 degrees" dilemma and others.
The movie is RELEASED on 1-18, but does NOT take place on 1-18, as I've always said.
I still believe 1-18 might play a role, though: I suspect it'll be the date that the military/Secret Masters of the Universe or whoever the phrack are collecting Hud's tape and watching it. THAT would explain why they'd need to timestamp it.

What I don't understand is this:
the myspace profiles, the Tido Wave site- isn't it all supposed to lead up to the movie? So, in other words, all this stuff will cease to be after the movie. I'm sure the site or profiles won't reveal anything about the movie before it comes out... So, in real time- wouldn't the events take place on the same date as the release?

Hey, it's even possible that the PMs might accelerate "game"-time between now and 1/18/08. So that events in the movie might be taking place even *further* into the near future, like, say, spring or early summer '08.

What doesn't make much sense is that they are having the online viral campaign happen in real time. It seems a bit odd, maybe even stupid to have the movie release and foretell the events that the 'ARE' will culminate in. What would be the point of such an ARE if they did that?
