Cant everyone just forget always having to post in previous threads all the time? the point of posting a new post is because maybe in the other threads you couldnt find what you were looking for. Posting a new topic grabs attention and can get your question answered right away.

Actually, the problem of threads withering without conclusion is that people don't come in fresh and add information or their new ideas to them. Instead once they fall past page 1, we get people that can't be bothered to use Search (lazy, impatient, arrogant, or inexperienced - only the last is really acceptable) and they create yet another thread and push even more threads off page 1 to wither and be repeated pointlessly. New threads on old subjects end up covering ground already covered before - and this wears on anyone that could be helping you with following your leads or ideas, as well as wasting time and space on the forum. As this cycle of pushing down existing threads with repetitious new ones keeps going, we end up with the same questions and information being brought up over and over and in the end still end up getting us nowhere. If all you really want to know is the answer to a question you are pretty sure was already asked, the existing threads and Search can do that for you. If those threads with your question were not answered then - what makes you think posting it again is going to get you any better of an answer now?

Thinking you are calling attention to an old subject by trouting is only hurting. Please don't do it.

It is true that posting a new thread with a question grabs attention, conversely it can annoy a lot of people and mean that they are (perhaps) less likely to help out and answer it, if indeed there is an answer.

There are a number of things you can do as an alternative to posting a new thread that might result in a better answer to your query.

The first is to have a thorough search - it seems you did this, so I'm only including this as an example - probably a mantra by now - for others in case they don't know.

The second is to ask the question in a thread already discussing a similar topic - the people actively posting in the topic are more likely to have the knowledge you require, you get your answer quicker and Bob is your mother's brother. If it doesn't get answered there then perhaps people don't know - in which case, excellent! You've come up with a proper stumper Wink nothing like it for spurring people into action.

The third is to ask the question in the questions thread stickied at the top of the forum linky. In your case the question was basically required a yes/no answer with potentially a link to the information if it was known, perfect for the questions thread. Also, if you browse through that thread, almost every question has been answered - a much better success rate than posting a new thread.

And OliMango - Superfuzzzz, please keep the sniping to PMs, I'm a better shot with a massive weapon (at least that's the rumour I cultivate) Smile
