[RANT] So "Cloverfield" has nothing to do with the movie.

Quote:
It's called Cloverfield now." Not exactly bone-chilling. "It's the name of the street off the freeway where you exit for J.J.'s office."

This made me laugh, and also want to kill J.J.

Apparently they also had an awesome name for it that applied to everything in the move, but they just kept it Cloverfield because "they liked it and it stuck".

So basically Cloverfield is just the title of the video in the movie. How....gay.

[EDIT] "Gay" is not a useful or informative tag, please do not start entire threads to continue discussion from elsewhere. Threads don't have a sexuality. Your posts are becoming troll-scented OliMango. - MikeyJ

[EDIT] Sorry Mikey. The trolls are truly getting to me. - Me

Oh come on, the military has had all kinds of crazy names for operations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_operations

And you too can make up your own cockamamy military strike names.

http://www.ubique.ch/codename/

The name of the movie and the film within is irrelavant. The content of the movie is what we're after. Well, that's what I'm going for.

Actually I am a complete noob to ARGs but the whole thing for Cloverfield seems pretty lame to me. How is this compared to previous ARGs?

Other than figuring out TIDO from some pics and the password for jamienadteddy.com there has been nothing to do. Everything is just a release of information, it might has well have been straight adverts.

Cloverfield means nothing, just a cover that they were afraid to lose because of name recognition. 1-18-08 means nothing except the release date.

Slusho is fun but again has seemingly nothing substantial to do with the film.

The MySpazz pages are pathetic, obviously updated by the same employee all at once and then neglected for weeks.

TIDOwave has what seems like clues but yield nothing.

Jaime's videos are the lamest ever, does anyone act like that? The dialog and acting are terrible. Who in the world would not even bother to listen to the end of a recording? Could she use the word "prick" a few more times?

Tagruato site is cool but is inert with dead tags. Why create subsidiaries and not even bother to give fans a fake site to at least read and pass the time with?

Sorry to be so down on this but I expected more. It's not like it costs millions of dollars to do this stuff.

Forgot something, REALLY, REALLY lame to send out memos and not put them in every order when it's obvious people are ordering to try to get one. Ditto for the Whistle Blower's email, it should have gone to anyone who supplied and email address to Tagruato or Slusho.

yea i remember when the teaser first came out. Everyone immediatly discovered 1-18-08.com and then ethaanhasswasriighht, trying to find clues. and at the same time they were trying to guess their favorite monster. and then when ehwr turned out to be OOG and when nothing was updated everyones like
"Oh, oh ok. So um since ehwr is not related, um, i guess 1-18-08.com has no clues. Hmm ok. Ill just sit and wait for information".

The only thing I don't like about this ARG is how long it takes for a new clue to come out. Nothing really leads to anything new now, after the sixth Jamie video, all we can do is speculate, it hasn't released any shocking new information that we can follow through countless subtle hints to find a new groundbreaking clue.

I love Cloverfield, I just wish it was a bit faster paced.

Just because of that coincidence doesn't mean that they haven't worked the name into the film. They've already mentioned that it has a deeper meaning you will learn in the film.

Oli,

As i said I am a noob to this stuff. But if Cloverfield is typical then this is pretty lame. This has been going on for months and almost everything related to it except the ordering and shipping of the Slusho! stuff could have been made by one person. It just doesn't seem like much of an effort.

The keeping it a secret is effort in itself.

It's amazing that major stuff hasn't been leaked, or if it has, it's amazing they've kept us from knowing.

 The Dark Knight ARG

The Dark Knight ARG is unbelievable. Not to say I haven't been following this intensely since day one, just been looking over what I've missed, ie. my opportunity cost, and TDK game is costly...

http://batman.wikibruce.com/Home

Overly interactive, like the real NYC scavenger hunt and personal call backs that have been taking place...Just makes me wonder how good this ARG could have been if they would have put in the effort.

It would be an effort to keep secret if there was much going on.
Basically it's a bunch of cross references on 4 web sites and some very sparse MySpace pages. Updates at an average of once a week at best. One person could have created and maintained those easily.

It's very easy to keep a secret if only one person knows it and s/he's job depends on it.

The Dark Knight ARG is ok, but there are way too many websites.

And it's too easy.
