Here's my take on the sonar, plus speculation about things in general - sorry if it's not original, I've checked a lot of the threads but not all.

Tagruato's website says their main purpose is drilling for petroleum, however with the leaked profits that are missing the Chuai station (plus the note "there is no oil here"), I believe the Chuai station was set up just to get the Seabed Nectar.
I think the Son-air scan is of what Tagruato believes/believed to be a large deposit of Seabed Nectar which they could drill away at and harvest as much as they want (the same way they would after a large oil deposit was found).
In actual fact, if this is true, could it turn out to be that they've been mining MGP's blood by drilling into its body and extracting the blood which they call Seabed Nectar. Now, he's so huge (if the Son-air is correct) that it would be like a few mosquito bites at first. But maybe they do it long enough that it pisses him off.
This could lead to people becoming infected, because they are basically consuming his blood.

So, I think the Son-air scan shows the position of Seabed Nectar, but with more detailed scans would show that it's simply MGP they are drilling into.

Or am I talking bollocks?

Disgusting, yes - but it would explain a lot.
We've been told MGP is the size of a skyscraper, which is rather large.
Finding something like that underwater, the company that found it may not think of it as a creature as it is so large.
Drill into the anomaly and receive a substance full of nice bacteria which makes you healthy.
Later find you were drilling into a larger creature Smile
