It actually looks like two triangular plates like that one guy's theory.

The tags so far read...

That made my head hurt, but did it say the X-Y could be converted to Coordinates?
Yeah we could but I think we need an X-Y-and Z to get the GPS or global location.

Here's how a sunken U boat looks on a real sonar image...
I wonder if they put enough detail in it for the colors to contain Height information? wonder if we could 3d the map.

It kind of looks like a shark (or whale) in the second picture to me.

Hmm, I think this will be a view of Grumpypants, is there any message with the email?
The full version isn't messed up like the thumbnail.

Here's the Red channel for the two images, notice there's stuff at the bottom of the screen too.

Hum. This is interesting (to me, anyway). The date on the image - 12-18 ) is the same as the last TIDOwave blog update.
Could be coincidence.
(edited for that darn smiley)

Off the cuff I'd guess this is MGP emerging from a pit/hole, perhaps in the sea floor.

Is the small figure on the sonar in the circles a boat for scale?

Yeah the fish finder fits. This is sidescan sonar of the sea bed from a boat above. The symbol on the left show that that exact center is directly under the boat.
It does say that with such a device there is a way to transfer the X-Y plane coordinates used in the sonar to Global Coordinate systems, Lat and Long I guess. But you would need the location of the boat.
Maybe that is what is changing in the red bar at the bottom.
I don't think this is sidescan sonar - the images I've googled are vastly different, even when colorized (and this looks to be a "raw" data image). This is a top-down plain sonar image, in my opinion anyway.
I also find it odd the symbol is on the left -- all the screens I've been able to pull up place that icon dead center of the circle. I guess it depends how much of a stickler for particular details Abrams and his team are being.

So here's what I'm seeing:
Between the 2 images I would guess you have a first detection of the beastie, then you have it a few moments later, coming further out of some sort of depression. Possibly pulling itself up with a limb?

It seems strange the images are different sizes both on disk and the image size.

Okay according to the Dictionary of Nautical Acronyms and Abbreviations
Occ is an abbreviation used in NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) charts to indicate an intermittent or occulting light.

I doubt JJ would be put the outline of MGP in any of these pictures, and even if he did, it would be generic(like a stick figure) and we wouldn't reallysee MGP.

well, no, but this is a top-down image - a fish in the water looks like a shadow, adn that's what we have here, I think. The shadow of MGP.
Hm. Light anomaly. That would make sense, I guess.
