OK, here's my take, as it always has been.

The thing about these ARGs, is typically, there's no rulebook to start with. If we, as players, find a tool like a reverse IP lookup, then great! Let's us find sites we wouldn't have otherwise found, at the PMs expense. I would've loved to have that tool to use against LivePlanet, beheheh.

OK, so it might ruin some of the fun of the game a little, but that's the chance we take.

As far as what's fair, all bets are off as far as I'm concerned, unless communicated otherwise by the PMs, such as during LockJaw when they dealt with bruteforcing in such a perfect way.

When someone started a bruteforce attempt, the PMs wisely shut the sites down, effectively turning off the game. More importantly, it communicated in no uncertain terms that bruteforcing was offlimits, and we surmised that it made sense, since they were paying for stuff out of pocket. So, no bruteforcing was tolerated by either the PMs or by players, as one player doing it could ruin the game experience for everyone. Very effective cause and effect.

So, listen to the PMs, which is tough in this case, as we seem to have been getting mixed signals. If they don't set up 'rules' against it, then go for it.

Rules??!! We don't need no stinking rules!!!

All right, sounds good to me.

Now what?

Also.. you said "listen to the PMs." In games you've played in the past, have you always had contact with the PMs?

Not always. In CTW, Dave set up rules. In LockJaw, the PMs communicated by their actions. In the Beast, they had enough $$ to withstand anything, so they did nothing Smile

In Push, NV, BenLo whined about us on national television, which just fanned my flames, mwahahaha.

Interesting:

Shocked Do you suppose they'd bail me out? Wink

Yeah, I gotta say that I'm pretty sure we don't have to do anything to actually make the game start. I could be wrong, but wasn't there a chat with the PM saying that when the game starts, we would know? That kind of leads me to believe that something major on one of the sites we know about will have some update, or we'll receive some kind of communication, etc. Not to say there's not stuff to be found in the meantime - like this www.cfrg.us junk - but I think the idea that we have to manually start the game is a little off-base.

CFRG login?

I think it's interesting that you can get a CFRG username, but when you try to login, it says your status is Offline and you are an Anonymous user. I've seen several names on the site, and I've been trying to break into their accounts by guessing their pw, but so far to no avail...

Yes, I noticed that too...it's almost like what's the point of registering? But maybe that site isn't supposed to be 'up' yet either..

Gawd....you know you're impatient/bored when the only thing you can find to pick up on are typos and you start quoting yourself. Shocked
