hi, found this on CFRG in the "Obscuring the Forest With the Trees" article:

last para -

Quote:
These are just two examples -- I'm sure attentive truth-seekers can find many more, including more recent incidents. The point is simple -- don't let the trees that our helpful puppet masters place in our path prevent you from venturing deeper and seeing the darker forest behind.

it was posted back in march so i'm not sure it has anything to do with our current situation, but it does suggest that our PMs will communicate with us via the content on this site.

btw, i'm always amazed and impressed by the amount of content creation work that goes into these games. these are truly talented, dedicated people!

How long has the FAQ page been at the Acheron site? I don't remember seeing it before. Also, have the PMs made any comment about using reverse whois to find sites? Typically games reveal new sites using puzzles or clues when they want us to find them.

Looks like there's a link to the faq from the acheron homepage.

I couldn't find it either at first...you need to do a hard reset (CTRL+F5) or set your browser to check for updates more often...tools, options, settings or something...there's a post somewhere on this forum on how to do it.

How long has the hidden terminal link been gone for?

Has anyone figured out a use for the login.html that came on the CD?

I tried using my cfrg.us login and pw as well as the login and pw i registered with Acheron.. but still the usual redirection... nothing special.

Most of the redirect pages involved conspiracy theories...
But when I put in Acheron as the ID and patience as the PW I got this page on Cryptography:

http://www-math.cudenver.edu/~wcherowi/courses/m5410/m5410cc.html
At the very bottom of the page was an interesting statement:

Quote:
Kerckhoffs' Principle: The security of a cryptosystem must not depend on keeping secret the crypto-algorithm. The security depends only on keeping secret the key.

We know Reggie has the key.
And: What about the password scramble that shows up in the password slot once you enter an id and PW
Logon: Acheron
PW: patience
got me this:

logon: Acheron

PW: $1$0a2.HW/.$QzWRwH4rgaHzN59hZvDw/.

So is that anything, my dear script kiddies?

Hey Steff, I think you may find that each time you enter a password or just leave it blank and hit enter, it redirects you to a different page...atleast that's what my login.html is doing....

Is it the same for you?

D-

PS...I just noticed that CFRG.us is one of the redirects...maybe more ingame sites will pop up.

Yes, it appears to be a random redirect, but before it goe to the redirect page there is another page that doesn't show for long, the "logon" page with the Id you enter (or blank if you left it blank) and what appears to be some script in the password area - they are yellowish in color and it replaces the "typing box" where you enter stuff...

Here is a sampling of what word I had entered and what was showing in the password section between the logon page and the redirect random page. I entered "password twice to see if it was just random responses or if the word entered made a difference... I got two random scripts...

So it doesn't matter what you enter in.. it is always random, every time.

Maybe the secret is with the garbled stuff it returns. Has anyone done it a bunch of times to see if is always random, or if the same ones come up?

Or perhaps the garbled stuff is the password we are supposed to use? Like an encrypted key.. and all we need to find is the correct username and the garbled key to go with it?

Might be worth looking into..

I think I've come to the conclusion that the others were right...when this game starts we will know about it...I doubt the login page or for that matter the cd is of any vital importance, at least at this point, because the game hasn't begun.

Perhaps it will come into play later, but at present...I think the best thing to do is wait. The PM's are scoping out this forum and they know what we're speculating about and I don't think they're gonna let the game stall without giving us a nice little ingame nudge.

But that's just my 2 cents.

Lots of change being thrown around here these days.. Cool

I suppose i'm inclined to agree with you. Like we've been told, we'll know when it has begun. I think the PM's have deliberately left a lot of excess stuff lying around for us to play with (like the login.html)... mostly things that aren't really important (at least at this junction), but will keep us occupied in the meantime. On the Acheron FAQ, it says:

Quote:
Q: Has Acheron started yet?
A: If we answer that, you wouldn't believe us anyway.

That really only makes sense if the answer is NO, Acheron has NOT started yet (afterall, of course we'd believe it if it HAD started, they said we would know). And I think the PM's expect us to keep searching, regardless of what they say.. and furthermore, they want us to, to keep us busy until they finally launch. Just part of the experience.

So I say we rebel and refuse to do anything!

Just kidding. Anyhow, my change is on the table.
