Can't release 3rd BB!

Ok, so after reading this, and even reading the description of how the ISIS works, I still cannot seem to release the 3rd ball (or so I believe). I have had the ISIS for a few months now, and finally decided to give in, and am glad I did, since I would have absolutely NEVER gotten it(I had never heard of the 11th clue...). Heres my problem:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So I read that you need to hit the ISIS with the plunger facing up to get the 3rd BB off of the magnet, and I did just that. MANY TIMES. So many times, that the bottom ring flew off and was a total PITA to get back on. I dropped it from pretty high onto a concrete floor a couple times, and I know the plunger was up when it hit the ground. The 3rd BB cannot be heard, and when I turn it upside down and swirl gently, it is still silence.

I obviously tried doing the next step to go through the maze, and tried that for a while as well with no luck. Could the 3rd BB be released and I just didn't know? If its not, any advice for a good way to get it out without risking the rings falling off again? Any advice is appreciated! You can e-mail me at ame5057SPLATpsu.edu Thanks!!!

re: Can't release 3rd BB!

I had a similar problem. After I finally opened my Isis I found there was a bit of glue residue inside the maze. When I resorted to sharply rapping the side of the Isis against a door frame (several different times in different places) I managed to get the third ball bearing past the problem area.

Assuming that you did not remove the maze from the bottom half of the Isis, there are two different possibilities.

CASE A - When resetting you put the third ball bearing on the center post of the plunger or in the center of the maze.
CASE B - When resetting you put the third ball bearing back on the magnet.

If CASE A, then just work the third ball bearing back to the center of the maze and proceed to open the same way you did originally.

If CASE B and the placentas ARE lined up, then make sure the third ball bearing is free and proceed as in Case A.

If CASE B and the placentas ARE NOT lined up, then you have a major problem. The third ball bearing will be prevented from entering the maze by the maze cover. Charlief222 at the bottom of page 2 of this thread suggests a way to possibly open the Isis without the third ball bearing.

HEY for all you out there who are pissed off at this thing heres an easy way to solve it, no maze required.
hold the puzzle upside down in you hand (plunger down) and make sure the bearings are quiet. then quickly and forcefully ark it up and turn to come down onyour other hand or a table quickly so the bearings cant fall out of the groves they are in when it is upside down. ( this step is similar to when you swing a bucket of water upside down without water falling out)

you should then be able to shake it rightside up without and noise.
when this is accomplished turn the top counterclockwise about a centimeter, till it stops you, the turn forcefully clockwise and it should just unscrew.

I haven't tried it, but in theory it should work. The momentum of the maze may carry it to the unlocked position.

Yeah, it works in theory, but ive been trying to do this, just out of curiosity, and it seems like it would be impossible to do.

yesssss

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I finally opened it thanxs to charlief222's trick. i had to hit it a lot harder than he made it seem, but it opened right up. try arking it up and coming down really hard on a wooden desk or something. when it finally opened i thought i had broken it, but it didnt break it was just an amazing back-door.

stuck unscrewing
help request

I got through the puzzle to the unscrewing stage -- now my placentas are on almost opposite sides, but it froze up again. Can't turn either direction. Repeated maze, but still stuck. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

When I go back through the maze, it seems to work, except no unscrewing either direction. the placentas are on almost opposite sides, and there is a small gap between the halves. how do i get unstuck? and then which direction do i unscrew. THANKS!

Here's something else to try:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Go back through the maze. Depress the plunger and keep it depressed.

2. Turn plunger side down. Keeping the plunger depressed rotate the Isis until the remaining two ball bearings go quiet. Depress the plunger the rest of the way.

3. While keeping the Isis plunger side down and keeping the plunger fully depressed with one hand unscrew it with the other.

This position is somewhat awkward, but since your Isis is partially open the maze/lock will probably not latch into the unlock position even with the plunger fully depressed. It must be held there by keeping the plunger fully depressed while unscrewing.

you dont have to unscrew it while its upside down, you know.

Just found this forum and was wondering about 'the back door' method.

I've had the little blighter for some time and it's finally getting to me.

Do I push the plunger in before or after I turn it upside down and arc it over?
Also should the BB's be quiet before I turn it over or doesnt it matter?

Ok just hold it upside down in your hand, and swirl till the bbs go quiet. then without changing how your holding it move your hand up, turn it over by arking you hand, arm, and isis, then slam it bottom side down on something hard. you never need to push the plunger in.

WTF?

Haha, thats pretty funny. of all the typos ive heard of on the isis that seems to be be the strangest one.
There should be a code on the top half of the Isis. it is impossible to miss, so apparently they forgot to put one on your friend's Isis
