There's no point in doing another movie unless the monster is attacking one city or another.

Guys- a prequel would be less interesting to te mainstream- these days audiences want something NEW, not something OLD. Only some prequels are succesful these days.
Here's my imagination at work.
2008- Cloverfield New York. (US. 447)
2011- Cloverfield: Episode Two London. (UK. 674)
2015- Cloverfield: Episode Three Varied places. (JP. 869) (CH. 1043)
(MX. 1239) (US. 1313)
I know it kinda sucks, but if I wanted to make a large but not overly big franchise that pleases fans with not-suckass-sequels, I would do this. Maybe the "Episode" thing isn't good, but oh well.
1st Movie- Civilian POV (Rob, HUD...)
2nd Movie- Civilian/News POV (Cameraman starts filming at work, but when things start to go down, you see him/her running through the streets with the cam still on)
3rd Movie. Army Documentary POV. ("November 12th, 2015. Location- Area 1046 or peviously known as Shanghai. Colonel Lance Yau recording.")
Speculating only- I'm not J.J. Abrams

I agree with that up to a point.
I think once we know more from the movie itself, we'll be able to assess what might be used for sequels. If we get an insight into the people that found the video at all, a sequel probably can't sustain being based on more discovered handheld footage. Much as with other sequels where reasoning behind the first is more what drives them, I'd expect a sequel to this to be from the 3rd person perspective (4th wall), or be of a documentary style detailing a greater backstory and more of the aftermath of the attack. This 'filling in' of details has been done many times before, both successfully or not:
Matrix (Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions)
2001: A Space Odyssey (2010)
Alien (Aliens)
Just making another attack first person POV would be too much of a rehash. Having the first person POV applied to troops or news coverage wouldn't really be so plausible. I don't think a prequel is out of the question, but it'd have to be a tremendous 'aha!' to make people feel all that fulfilled. If the movie itself doesn't give us enough answers that certainly could work.

We'll see, but personally I hope this movie just blows the doors off, leaves it all on the stage, so to speak, and requires no sequel. Just come in with one perfect film, and leave it at that, kind of like Close Encounters or E.T.

Yeah I defiantly believe production employees read these boards. Just a response, that I think a prequel would be very satisfying to the mainstream actually, but to us on these boards, maybe not so, since we found out alot of the backstory already, where the mainstream who haven't played this, depending on how much backstory is giving in this movie(I think minimal), will be left clueless to alot of origin questions ranging from where did it come from, to the nectar, Ganu, Tagruatos plans, etc.... And also, I guess this moving might be better off not being 1st person POV perspective thru handy-cam again, because more of the backstory story could get told overall without that first person view

if they make a sequel they should make it in the point of view of the monster

Assuming the monster is chased off or leaves and isn't killed, I was thinking a sequel with a filmmaker or news crew going out to the Chuai station, equipped with one of those deep sea cameras that James Cameron invented to explore the Titanic.
maybe discover MGP is missing.. or moving..
Then we get the POV of a group of scientists and film-makers trying to track and predict this thing, miles out to sea and trying to warn the destination. (darn convenient sun-spots/accidentally damaged radios) or maybe even dealing with a Tag scientist (and or PR/Security) who is half helping, half trying to cover up whats happening...
OR:
Aliens attack and MGP has to fight them off after being summoned by a pair of fairy triplets in a lucky cricket cage. This will probably involve the alien's own giant monster.
OR:
Tag has actually been growing/building a counter monster they send after the original.. maybe a giant Lion.. or Mecha-Grumpypants..
OR:
'Zilla comes after him and gets killed in 13 secs of footage that ends up on the cutting room floor (sorry 1-800, had to)

Maybe they could make a prequel about "The Event" and make it be from the perspective of the security cameras.
On second thought, that would be really difficult to pull off correctly.

They could make the ever so popular Trilogy Everyone seems to be doing it these days. Cloverfield
Plot Synopsis:
Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.
Cloverfield: Origins [prequel]
Plot Synopsis:
6 Members of an Environmentalist group infiltrate the Chuai Station with plans to sabotage the station's activities, but instead they uncover a horrible secret.
Cloverfield: Obsolescence
Plot Synopsis:
3 film students are swept up in the ultimate struggle for survival as a giant monster, along with it's smaller sized spawn, attack the Eastern Coastline, and spreading a deadly infection that could very well be the extinction of the human race.

I would love to see the film clips of the environmental group dig up dirt on Tagruato and of their events and how their involvement led to the awakening of MGP.

Hey- As I mentioned before, prequels are now less interesting than sequels (ask the current generation) and I feel that a Titanic deep sea camera of the ocean floor is less exciting than Manhattan getting trashed.
But hey, it all depends on the movie and J.J.'s call.
