Rabbithole clue

Theres a clue ot the rabbithole code in the guestbook:

If it is rabbits that you seek you better take a peak.
Its not hard if you look just turn the pages of the book.

The horse will speak her name as he launches this collosal game.

Find him first and then use these numbers to quench your thirst 7,8,9,38,51

Also there are many references to reading the Yucatan chapter.

Not sure what this all means but I figured I put it out there....

I read the entire "free chapter" from the site. It's not a bad read but his style of writing is a bit hard to follow. I read nothing about a horse, so maybe this is in another part of the book, which you would need to buy.

I found it interesting that he claims to have owned numerous business in the Seattle, WA area before his "journey". Though a search of his name produced no results anywhere for business owners.

I did a Whois on the domain and found the following info (I'll stick it behind a spoiler screen for fun):

So the domain has been around for awhile. There is a contact phone number. A google maps search of the address (with a satellite view) shows that the address is some sort of commercial business type address in a business park south of Seattle. Does anyone like to call phone numbers? Laughing

Ok I did a bit more searching and found two interesting tidbits:

The phone number in the whois information is a California number (which is weird since the address is for a Washington city). It's an area code near LA.

The address is actually registered to an accounting firm:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Brantley Janson Yost & Ellison - 1617 S 325th St - Federal Way, WA 98003-6009

(253) 838-3484

www.brantleyjanson.com

The fact that it is an accounting firm might be of note because of this comment from the site:

"For my own protection I have enlisted the help of several individuals and organizations to encrypt the clues."

Found here in the Book Prologue section entitles "A Mad Man's Curse". However it would seem this would be counter to the next claim in the passage which says:

"In all cases the names of those involved are unknown to me and my name is unknown to them."

Obviously he knows who these people are since he used their address for the address in his contact info on his domain registration.

Ok I am still very lost, but this is what I know so far.

I just looked at the source code (wow that makes it sound like I know what I'm doing doesn't it?) for the page below and saw at least one interesting thing - I boldfaced what may be helpful:

Of course that may be a normal thing in page source code; it's just that I haven't seen anything about robots on the website. If it IS a normal thing and has no meaning I'll happily delete this post.

Good find on the Author (Between this and the Whois, it seems that whoever made the site wasn't terribly concerned with covering their tracks - clue or carelessness?). The "robots" bit is unimportant, though: that's instructions to the search engines on how to treat the page, and when to revisit it. Standard HTML stuffs.

Ok, thanks! Should I leave it or delete it? Or just condense it to the author line?

How did you even find these links??? Clicking on the eye takes me to the rabbithole page, but how did you get through it to find the H1 through H4 pages??!

but here is a list of images on his website.

If this other riddle game I'm playing wasn't bugging the crap out of me, I'd dig further. Plus Trapped part 2. is starting in a few hours.

Noticed that there are more pages in numerical order:
http://www.throughtheeyesofmadness.com/H1.htm
http://www.throughtheeyesofmadness.com/H2.htm
http://www.throughtheeyesofmadness.com/H4.htm
http://www.throughtheeyesofmadness.com/H5.htm

Edit - Nevermind, I found the H3 page and I assume you just changed the number in the URL to find the others.

I emailed KK1 also and just got the "I'll get back to you as soon as I can" message that popped up. However, KK1 appears to have posted the clue in the Madness forum. That's where this came from:
Quote:
If it is rabbits that you seek you better take a peak.
Its not hard if you look just turn the pages of the book.
The horse will speak her name as he launches this collosal game.
Find him first and then use these numbers to quench your thirst 7,8,9,38,51

I read through the entire excerpt and did find a couple of oddities, but nothing that can't be written off to typos. For instance, the teacher is referred to as both Miss Teager, and Mrs. Teager.

And, yes, H2 and H22 are the same.

I also noticed a LOT of mirroring on the web pages. There is a quote in the excerpt that says "20 years will be the fold and the fold will be 20 years" which also appears to mirror. so it's possible that something will need to be mirrored in order to solve it.

I went and read through the guestbook on the site and there was someone by the name of Zilla said that s/he made a fan site on myspace for the book
myspace.com/bestsellingbook
And the second person on their top friends is a myspace with the name of gary
http://www.myspace.com/gdgarner
On that myspace there are alot of things that might help especially in the pictures
Theres a album called lost chapter and theres a lot of large pictures of the paintings
I think it might help if someone hasnt already taken a look at it

Nice find! On his myspace page he has one blog entry where we basically reposts the first chapter of the book from his site. Some friend of his replies to him in the comments and he then replies to her with:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Did you try to break any of the secret codes on the web site? The Virtual Rabbit hole is about the only code that can be broken without the book.....but no one has cracked it yet.........until the cognitive reasoning of the allmighty April, that is.

So basically I am thinking it's not really an ARG per say but a puzzle game. Thoughts?

Well I have found a couple of the links leading to the H1-H5 pages.

To get to H2, go to the "About the Author" page and click on the right eye of the first guy in the drawing.

To get to H4 go th the "Photos" page, click on the TIMES' TRICK painting to enlarge it (that's the one on the right of a woman with a clock for her face). Once the larger pic opens, click on her left cheek.

To get to H5 you go to the pics section and enlarge the picture on the top left and on the bottom left of that pictures is a person and you click their face.
