was thinking about that army guys face (sorry to sort of reply to my own post) how it appears to be sometimes blurred sometimes not. i can't read the name tag in both but the skin color, head shape, size, etc seem very similar. is it possible that there is more than one tape? one that is an army screened tape that has somethings edited while another is raw footage? it just doesn't seem to make sense unless i am missing something, or i guess unless it is two different people.

Probably a FAE (Fuel Air Explosive) dropped by the military. Best non-nuclear way to take on something like that. Basically a vaporized canister of gas that suddenly catches fire. The concussive force is incredibly destructive.

"The weapon is initiated upon dropping or firing, and the explosive charge (or some other dispersal mechanism) bursts open the container and disperses the fuel in a cloud. The fuel undergoes aerobic reactions to mix with the surrounding gaseous oxidizers(H,H20,CO and CO2),instead of atmospheric oxygen like a traditional Fuel Air Explosive. This makes thermobaric weapons more effective in confined environments."

So a few options on how the air caught on fire:

1. Weapon (bomb etc) made the fire
2. Explosion of (car, truck, whatever)
3. MGP
4. The MGP mini creatures

Personally I am really not sure and agree I hope to S**t its not MGP as that would be lame.

As for MGP killing the scientist. I could see the cops looking as the crime scene:

Cop 1: So uh looks like a gas explosion.

Cop 2: Really? A gas explosion?

Cop 1: Yup, open and shut

Cop 2: So the giant GIANT monster prints in the ground? Or the path of destruction for 3 miles to the sea don't at all strike you that it might not be...
Cop 1: See the gas canister there and the dead people there? ... gas explosion

Cop 2: So even the 30 story monster right there, right fricken there, poorly, POORLY hiding behind the tree doesn't convince you it..

Cop 1: See the hat, it says press, thats a press monster. nope allll gas explosion.
