I'm guessing it will suck. I mean, let's face it... The acting in the preview is truly not good.

But I think it will be a great, fun, exciting movie anyways!

If you expect the movie to suck...then why the hell are you here. Confused
Take your negative bullshit somewhere else.

Because I'm not afraid of facing the facts about something as silly as a movie.

Face the facts, buddy:
1. Small budget.
2. Young, relatively inexperienced cast.
3. January release date.

It's a movie. Don't get all upset. Learn to respect other's opinions. This is why Americans are regarded as being a bunch of bigots. Half of us are too insecure to politely accept the opinions of others.

Once again... It's a movie.

And I said it would be fun. But it's no "Crash." And the acting is not all that great.

That's all I said.

But no matter what, it will definitely be fun. But in this case, it's very much the journey that counts. This is the most fun we'll have with a movie in a long time.

Oh and by the way, I am absolutely not a troll.

We understand, and I accept your opinion, but we are all Cloverfield LOVERS here, not a lot of haters, tis all.

Anyway, back on track, I am hoping that it will be excellent, I got really hyped up for Transformers and that was a major let down, so I am trying my very best to keep expectations for Cloverfield low, but with a Slusho shirt, a Cloverfield Poster opposite my bed and always in my brain, I dont know if I can Rolling Eyes

If it sucks, well, it sucks, its just a movie. I guess I'll just move on, and maybe rent out the DVD and watch some extras and voiceovers, they might just mention us!

I admit it, I lost track of who was bashing Cloverfield before it's even released. Splitting the topic thread across multiple pages made it easy for me to shoot my mouth off at the wrong poster. Still, the profile speaks for itself.

Here let me make myself more clear. I did a poor job of speaking what I'm thinking.

I absolutely love this movie. I think it's going the be the best movie I'll see (unless J.J. Abrams makes another one.)

When I said it could "suck," I meant from the perspective of an uptight drama-loving movie critic.

From my own personal, fun-loving movie perspective, I'm certain we will all love the movie. It's easy for me to not notice the lack of multiple Oscar winning acting ability. But when I show it to people who are not avid fans of Cloverfield, they do often point out the acting isn't so amazing. (As in not as amazing as the hype.) But I'm sure we can all get over that... Very quickly. And there's a huge possibility that the acting appears poor because the previews are cut up so much! Everything is out of context so of course the acting seems bad...

I don't want to flame anyone. I was just saying what I though... Except when I go back and reread my original post, I did an awful job of describing what I was thinking. Smile

Haha all good man!

But you have to remember, these are fairly unknown actors, and Michael Stahl-David is actually a theatre actor, not a film actor, so some of his acting may be over the top just a little bit.

What makes a movie like this is the story. There will be thousands of extras running around screaming which makes to bad acting, but if the story sucks, and the acting sucks, well the movie will suck.

In order for the movie to suck, it'll have to take some already good looking ingredients and ruin them in a hash of crappy editing and poor production overall. This doesn't seem that likely. It may not turn out to be so great as we'd like to see it be and basically know it could be - but that risk exists with every movie. I think the negative outcome we are most likely to experience (if there is one) is that this will be disappointing. If it's got some good action and CGI and answers even a few of the questions we've gathered from this viral campaign, it'll be worth it to me.
Consider Rocky Horror Picture show:
Have you ever seen it alone, at home, without any props or interaction?
If you have, you'd be able to say IT SUCKS! Without at least some of those other things, it's nowhere near what it should be. Because I have seen it with props and people speaking lines and shouting interjections, live actors camping up the scenes on a stage in front of the screen - seeing it in the circumstances I've given at least has some funny memories to bring up. If I'd never had the 'full experience' I'd probably consider it a largely lame movie with a few funny things in it.

As for this terrapinbear vs Toilet Explorer spat...
First off terrapinbear takes a post they find worthy of moderation and proceeds to quote it, either leading to a mod having to edit the same thing twice and increasing the load and thus diminishing the resources of the mods, or ending up preserving it for posterity. The latter often happens here as a demonstration of how one's approach to disturbing content can actually increase interest in it rather than remove it.
So, ask yourself - is it really helping? How might you better handle your approaches to offensive things on the forum?

One fact is for certain...

At least a few people here will think the movie is great.
At least a few people here will be highly disappointed.
Some people will even think it was awful.
Some people will think it was amazing.

Its impossible to speculate exactly what an opinion will be, other than the aforementioned facts are known. One example would be the countless people who loved The English Patient, while I found it extremely lackluster and non-innovative (I consider myself to be a deep person that can appreciate a movie like this, but I found it in no way special). Another example would be that I loved Donnie Darko, but many people hated it (regardless of it going over anyones head or not). There are even people out there who hated the Godfather movies.

Overall, the movie will be a success in its category, even in its genre... and I agree it won't be like "Crash," no... but that was a drama, designed to be over-the-top amazing- Well known actors and all. But this is different. The actors, I feel, will do great and I've found nothing wrong so far- they'll deliver to us what is supposed to be delivered.

What are you talking about? Perhaps we just like using the trout tag for fun?

The five minute clip was really exciting, and just from watching the original trailer you could tell that there is something, "je ne sais quoi," about this film that makes it stand out from all the other sci-fi monster flicks.
