While the presence of smaller creatures in this movie are becoming more and more likely, I chafe at the thought they might be mini-monsters ala Godzilla 1998.
I really hope for the movie's sake that any smaller creatures are mutant water bears who've grown monstrous on sea-bed's nectar.

Well, Sealice are a common parasite of many fish, and if MGP is eating the seabed nectar, when he comes up to surface, sealice could hypothetically, drink MGP's blood, causing the sealice to mutate. But, this is all speculation, of course.
I'd like to see a waterbear that was launched into orbit return that is 10000 times larger, due to cosmic radiation. I've heard that waterbears can live in vaccume.

Sea lice could work too. Although if it's a giant sea louse that is on the other side of the door that the guy and the girl are trying to keep out, where's all the water splashed around that must be dripping off of it? Did the louse dry off already when he finally caught up with them?

Thought thought of mini-me Monsters makes me want to vomit like Godzookie getting sick on Christmas cookies. I don't dismiss off hand that there might be smaller creatures coincident with Mr. Big's visit to New York.

A few points:
I see 2 scratches and a tatoo on the "Door Block Pic". Either way the 3 marks don't line up like a three clawed wound, more like 2 claws and a third mark lower down the arm.

Is the quote "Those things came out of nowhere" or more like "Those things came out of nowhere"? The first version obviously emphasizes the things the second would tend to emphasize the speed of the things appearance.

Aside from creative editing how sure are we that "We've got a bite" refers directly to Marlena?

In the Door Block pic anybody consider it could be Lil trying to prevent what's-his-name from leaving rather than the both of them trying to keep something from coming in? We don't see anything at the door on the other side which would cause the both of them to seem so urgent.

I remember a while back reading an article from someone who said they saw Cloverfield but wasnt totally finished, and said that the smaller monsters looked kinda like the uglies from starship troopers. I dont know if the guy was lieing or not. I never saw Starship troopers but googled it .

if its true, the monsters have to be smaller than in cloverfield

I think another good reason for there being smaller creatures is that in oen of the trailers Rob says, "If we stay here we die, if we stay in the tunnels we die, if we go out on the streets we die." Obviously the monster is HUGE and cannot get down into the subway, so there must be things that are penetrating the subway and killing people.

The picture you posted is the "Tanker Bug". The smaller ones are just called "Bugs" or "Arachnids".

At this stage it seems pretty definitive to me that there is a "smaller threat" of some form besides MGP. I'm with the "there's little monsters, too" crowd, but I guess we can't rule out that the smaller monsters are in fact people themselves, somehow mutated by proximity to the monster/getting slimed by the monster/whatever.

To be honest, at this stage I'm more amped to see exactly what's happening in that Hazmat scene than our first glimpse of MGP himself. (Herself?)

Though the "we've got a bite" line can just be something that they added for dramatic purposes and is exclusive to the trailer, if we're to assume that it's a legit line in the movie, I can't see how anyone would think it's MGP. The monster's the size of a building. I don't think it's going to neatly chomp off someone's hand or something.

I really like the idea of smaller creatures/monsters of some sort. Smaller MGPs would be kind of lame.
I'm convinced that there has to be some kind of smaller threat to everyone.

Before The Teaser came out, a website posted that Cloverfield would be coming out soon and that it was being referred to internally as the "parasite" I mean if this person knew about the title even before the teaser trailer maybe it is a parasite thing, hey you never know what's true and what's not with this film.
