1. Who is she adding too?

2. Even if it is ridiculous I hardly think one person's rant warrants going on a email writing barrage in defense of something I know little about and isn't my work anyway. For all we know she could be absolutely right. Do you know what the Producers'/Director's intentions were?

People have been saying Cloverfield is a reference to 9/11 for a while now, it's nothing new. The fact that even more people continue to say it is what is pissing us off.

Please, stop aruging with me. I'm not in the mood.

So people have been saying that for awhile and the Director even lends some credence to it and this woman is ridiculous and to blame for suggesting she doesn't like it and it isn't right? Fox and Cavuto are evil for putting her on?

Shes saying their using 9/11 as a promotional base. That the poster is based off 9/11. Which its not (as we know) its based of an old movie (Escape from NY?)

She also says it would be ok if "it inclueds Al-Queda, or one of their evil cousins" - So shes saying as long as you inclued Al-Queda you can exploit it.

And Matt Reeves said "It will bring back some anxiety of 9/11" not "we based the movie off 9/11."

This seems to be going in a circular motion...perhaps the discussion should be continued here:

I'm not saying she isn't wrong.

I'm just questioning what appears to be a massive overreaction to a 2 and 1/2 minute piece on a cable news channel.

It's not like it's IG or something.

Right after this they probably talked about one of the Spears girls for another 15 minutes.

All I said was lighten up. Writing a bunch of emails to Fox will just show the hit a nerve and go with it again. I seriously doubt they will retract the piece.

FOX News likes controversy, if they can stir somthing up, they will.

What is really needed is another John Stewart type situation where someone comes in and points out that raising such a stink over a vague relationship to circumstantial events is hurting America. 9/11 isn't about buildings falling down, that happens as a result of fires all the time. It's about a group of hateful people attacking helpless and innocent bystanders. This movie isn't glorifying terrorism, not making excuses for it, and not exploiting anger towards it. It's fantasy, meant to thrill audiences through an imagined fear. To suggest that this is in any way comparable to the experiences of those people exposed directly to the events of 9/11 is an insult.
To those shouting against the movie, I say:
Please stop.
You're hurting America.

I even watch CNN sometimes. I believe in getting all sides of the issue. You're guaranteed a liberal viewpoint on CNN and a conservative one on FOX. Expand your mind! Get both sides of the story and make up your own mind. You can allways turn the channel.

You aren't getting both sides of the story from CNN and Fox news, hate to tell you. Sad

Oh no, not that hoary old chestnut. Surely you could be more original. Smile

What you get from Fox and CNN is spin. You're essentially ingesting the bias-friendly* views of the monkey who can fling poo the furthest. If you want real news, read the website of a reliable newspaper (the WSJ has a nice conservative bent if that's what you're looking for; if you want to "open your mind", you could try the NYT) or go outside the country to the BBC, widely recognized as one of the most solid news agencies in the world. The AP isn't too bad as a source, either. Ditto for NPR, where you will find some bias, but it tends to swing back and forth between slightly left-of-center and slightly right-of-center.

If you want to see what I mean in play, just watch their political coverage. CNN is furiously pro-Hillary, Fox is big on Giuliani and they HATE Ron Paul. Watching them, you'd never know he'd raised the most money of any candidate from the internet in history. You'd never get that Edwards has a lot of momentum going in to the caucuses tonight from CNN, either. If you want diametrically opposed opinion to diversify your media diet, at least go MSNBC. They ARE the liberal media. Smile

Anyway... no more wonking from me.

*-By bias-friendly, I mean friendly to the bias of the host network.

Sadly, my cable provider also does not offer BBC, or I would watch it. Sad

My cable provider doesn't offer much of anything. I'm pretty much stuck with CNN and FOX. I won't go near BSNBC.

Intriguingly, I was reading the transcript from that very interview Stewart did on Crossfire just yesterday. It was brilliant.

And Starshiptrooper - I'm pretty sure it's spelt Al Jazeerah.

And what are those emails to Fox, Neil Cavuto and Bill O'Reilly? I'm going to write my email this night.

Yes, my bad. Al jazirah is a state in sudan... al jazeera is the network.

Just send your email to Cavuto. It was on his show. O'Reilly will just call you a pinhead.
