I think one of the big reasons NYC is chosen for so many movies is the presences of very recognizable landmarks.
Some recent examples:
"I am Legend" set in a deserted NYC (assigned designation of Ground Zero for the plague that wipes out most of the human race and turns 10% of them into rabid zombies - which was previously done in LA when Charlton Heston did "The Omega Man").
"Enchanted" is set in NYC - taking advantage of Central Park as a wonderful outdoor set.

Heroes? Times Square, right? Isn't that where Hero teleports to?

Wow chief, just 'cause I can respect people's rights to their opinion?
I am sorta an @$$, but that is besides the point.

lol, go right ahead. I think I'll stay out of it though.
If she wants to hate it, then let her hate it and talk shit all she wants. I don't think her opinion is going to change any of ours or any one else's really either.
There are going to be TONS of people seeing the movie I'm sure. I just made that in jest.

It was hilarious that she claimed to be into "unsolved mysteries" yet seemed to have been less than interested in investigating this phenomenon before posting her opinions about it. Godzilla? Really? Can we trout people on other sites? (Note: the answer is no.)
Also, just for the hell of it, I've checked into my web stats. Inside the US, California state is currently ranking number one for our Cloverfield related-traffic and New York state is number two. Inside New York, NYC is the clear leader by about 150% over the number two spot (Brooklyn), especially on the Despoiler Wiki. I'm curious if similar results might be obtained by some of our local Cloverfield bloggers and other web resource suppliers?

Florida isn't generating much traffic is it? Guessing it might be because the SOL is actually taller than the highest point in all of Florida...

Sorry, Britton Hill @ 345' beats the SoL, but only by 40 feet. It's also nearly in Alabama. Even Sugarloaf Mountain is higher, at 312' - and yes, I've climbed that 'mountain' on foot.
Central Florida is well represented on this board, I hope they have a meetup for the premiere.

Ok first. LMFAO.
Second...
Quote:
Apparently, it's some kind of monster movie. But I had to go to the movie's website to find this out, since the trailer is intentionally oblique and just shows an eerily familiar scenario of New York City being demolished, and people running for cover in delis and subway stations.
A couple things with this quote. 1) She says the official movie website is the APPLE TRAILERS WEBSITE. 2) Is the roar not FREAKING OBVIOUS ENOUGH??? 3) I SAW IT! ITS ALIVE! ITS HUGE! Should have been a big enough give away. 4) How else is a building going to go down in a big city? Flowers and rainbows everywhere with people laughing and hopping? No.
