Considering the Titanic was sunk a long, long time ago, I doubt that Janice (that's what I'm calling the monster now) sunk it. Unless, Janice has been causing disasters for the past 50 years, and we've just assumed it has been something else.

So if it takes 3 days that means MGP and the ship he's following are going about 34 mph, or 29.5 knots. The fastest tanker in the world the Kuroshio-maru only goes 20.5 knots.

Hmm, your right... but we know MGP is a sea creature, and if he goes fast on land (He freaking plowed through a building with no stopping), he has to be extrmely fast in sea. So, even if the 'event' happened weeks ago, (A month from the 18th) it can't take MGP to slowly doggy paddle to New York. There's not even a reason!
Something's obviously up.

I think about now is when Tagruato has gotten a tanker out there to check things out, or will very shortly. If it takes about 5 days to get one there from either Europe or North America, give it another couple of days on site, then another 5 days to get to NYC...
MGP can be following once the tanker leaves the Chuai site, and arrive just in time to interrupt a certain person's going away party.

So somewhere around the 11th or 12th, maybe we'll get a leaked transcript from the tanker?

From who? It appears Tidowave don't even know what's going on, and they certainly won't know about the bloody tanker (nevertheless, fantastic theory, Euchre). Tidowave are too busy playing The Fugitive with Tag agents at the moment.

From a Naval ship, coast guard ship, anybody out there that might recieve a frantic transmission from a tanker full of scared shitless Tag employees?

I doubt it. Tag are going to be very secretive about this thing, especially if they're responsible for Herr Grumpypants. If they contracted out the tanker, that may be another story, but they won't radio it in until a couple of hours before they hit New York if Herr Grumpypants is still following them then - that then gives the army ample to scramble so that they're present in time for the movie without giving them too much time. That's if they even phone it in - coastguards or fishermen or something could see it chasing the tanker and radio it in.

I'm with you. I bet Tag plays clueless hoping to shake MGP and it's another ship that calls in a distress signal. "A huge fuckin' critter is following that ship Captain!"

And we gotta consider the thought that maybe they don't even know that the tanker was even being followed. It's a possibility that they have no idea that it was following them.

yes

It is but where I am still fuzzy is why wouldn't MGP just destroy the tanker at sea? If he/she destroyed the station Tagruato can't have the thing under control, so couldn't lure it, I am just a bit skeptical.

That's what I figured, because if they knew they were being pursued I'd think they wouldn't slow down going into a closed in area like the port mouth of NYC.

Why would MGP not destroy Chuai early on in it's assembly? It's not like MGP is just lying there right where Chuai was waiting for something to show up. If MGP is in the general area, the tanker can show up and do it's survey and recon of the area and pique MGP's interest so he follows. If MGP catches on as they are getting underway to full steam, he might not be able to keep up that well and would basically be stalking his 'prey'. Ship slows down as it reaches NY harbor and BOOM - literally.

Plausible to be sure. My assumption was that Tag may have awakened the monster sometime after drilling commenced (around Sept. 07 accrd to Tag). I am fully willing to suspend my own nitpicking disbelief about the tanker if it turns out to be a major plot element. Just seems highly unlikely as an actual event if the monster is already destroying things, which seems a recent development.

EDIT: I should say awakened or arrived.
