Confirmation of the movie being real time?
Here is the transcript for the 8th commercial:

Rob: Approximately seven hours ago, some thing attacked the city.
Announcer: On January 18th,...
Unseen: OMG! OMG!
Unseen: I saw it, it's alive, it's huge!
Unseen: What is it, is it coming this way?
Announcer: ...experience the event that will change everything,...
Hawk: We need to get the hell out of Manhattan
Announcer: ...through the eyes of those...
Lily: Did you see it?
Announcer: ...who are there.
Marlena: What was that?
Unseen: Ruuuuun!
Rob: Still filming?
Hud: Yeah, people are gonna want to know how it all went down.

Now look at the bolded. On January 18th, experience the event that will change everything through the eyes of those who are there.

Notice that it says "who are there" not "who were there".

So I'm assuming this is stating that the movie is actually happening on January 18th, and is filmed in real time, or whatever. If the movie occurred on any other date, wouldn't it have said "who were there?

So, confirmation?

 		Nice observation of the subtleties!
I tend to believe it's supposed to be happening on that date, although they may otherwise not mention it in the film to keep the timing 'loose' for those not part of the viral campaign - and even farther down the road.

 		Again I believe what Matt Reeves said when he said it was meant to just be a generic date, they didn't want to release the title so they just put 1-18-08 on there and everybody ran with it. Also since the movie is supposed to be a tape is found then the events probably would have happened before 1-18-08, so I'm pretty sure it's still just a generic date.

As for real time we know it isn't gonna be in real time because rob says 7 hours ago, I highly doubt the movie is that long.

Plus don't we have enough posts for this kinda thing already?
