 		[LEAK] [SPOILERS] So the workprint leaked...
So if you've been on IRC at all today you know that the workprint version of the film leaked. A workprint is basically the version of the film shown to test audiences to gauge how a set of casual viewers would rate the film. (i.e.: What they like, dislike, and what they want changed) I was against downloading the film and passed up an offer for it. I don't like downloading movies at all because I have a tiny hard drive, and I especially wanna see "Cloverfield" in theaters so I'm staying away from it. But I do know that it's real, I saw screen shots of things that didn't happen in any teasers or TV spots and the file itself is 815MB (It's an MPEG.. that's a ridiculous file size, BTW.), so it's not just one of the trailers under a different name.

But I did read what some people in the channel had to say (am I allowed to give that out here or do admins ban people for directing others to leaked material?) since I couldn't help but ask questions, and here's a synopsis of major events [SPOILER WARNING]:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):






* Jamie Lascano is not in the film at all. In fact, the only ones to really mention her are LenaDia and HUD. Lena seems all depressed at Rob's party because Jamie just disappeared out of nowhere and they were living together, so she'd know where she went. She says that she's not in the mood to "party" when her "sister" has been gone without reaching out to her in three weeks. HUD just says that he thinks Jamie left to be with Teddy "wherever he's gone to this week."

* Rob's leaving NY to go to Japan to work for Slusho. ("Slusho" is mentioned, Tagruato is not, even though in the film the Tagruato logo on the tanker is much, much clearer than the TV spots) Aside from being mentioned once in relation to Rob's trip, the only time Slusho is brought up is in the beginning when HUD, Hawk and Lil are shopping for stuff to bring to Rob's party. HUD turns the camera on the convenience store clerk and asks if they have any Slusho.

* The monster resembles a dinosaur and its skull is vaguely visible through its head. It doesn't jump, fly, etc., etc., etc. It stays pretty much grounded. Its body is scaley, green and somewhat yellow in spots and always appears to be somewhat damp. Red eyes, yellow sharp teeth and nostrils that seem to be a part of its face and not connected to anything resembling a nose. The screen shot looked scarier than I'm describing it. From what I was told, it doesn't breathe fire or anything like that. It has three fingers on each hand that curve in to look like some sort of gripping device. At one point the monster grabs a hellicopter in his right hand and throws it down the street as the main characters are running for the subway in the clip from the teaser. It looks like a typical "sea monster", but huge and more psychotic looking than Godzilla or Cthuhulu. Its face is very expressive, almost human.

* The whole film centers on the crew trying to find Beth. At Rob's party, HUD asks Hawk why Rob seems so down and Hawk says that he and Beth had a huge fight on the phone and she said she wasn't coming. HUD says that he's seen how she's been acting in her MySpace comments to Rob lately and Hawk says that they're too stupid to realize they're in love. (I don't know if I like the MySpace line or not. I mean, this might just be there to point people in the direction of the profiles for the ARG but it still seems corny... I know people discuss their MySpaces regularly and all, but eh... I think it might date the movie more than it should.)

* Beth is trapped in a closet in her apartment after the roof caved in. By the time the crew makes it to her place, Rob, Lil and HUD are the only survivors. (Marlena does indeed explode and Jason dies in a random act of wreckage by the monster, and both Lil and Rob react in a way that I'm told is the most human part of the movie) Lil and Rob rush into the closet to find Beth knocked out, with several scratches on her. This is the first time the little monsters are seen. While Lil and Rob are nursing Beth, HUD keeps his camera on them, but turns away for a minute and sees something moving in her living room which is a smaller monster. Rob and Lil try to keep it out until they hear a gunshot, which is from the black armyman in the trailer who had been following them since they left the safe house.

* The Brooklyn bridge scene I'm told is sick. The monster grabs it with both hands and tries to unhinge it, but can't so it starts pounding its fists on it until it just completely unravels and collapses. When it finally does, it takes one of the end pieces of the bridge and flings it at a helicopter, completely exploding it in mid air.

* When Marlena dies, they're at the safe house before Beth is rescued. Along their trip, they ran into military who wanted to get them off the street when they were just several blocks away from the apartment. She explodes, but no little monsters come out of her, nothing like that. She was bitten on the leg by the little monster from Beth's apartment while trying to run away from it. After Rob sees what happened to Marlena, he says he definitely can't leave Beth behind and dares the officer for a minute to shoot him. Since the officer can't do that, he offers to go with them but Rob says no, as he's developing his "leader" complex. But like I said, the officer follows him anyway.

* The movie ends with Rob and Beth being covered in debris but it's never shown if they die. Rob gets up to leave their safe haven but Beth holds him back and says that if they go run out, one of them will be killed while the other survives and she'd rather they die together somewhat peacefully. Or something. This explanation didn't make sense to me. But the guy in the channel says that debris fills up under where they're hiding and they just completely drown in it until the screen goes black and credits roll.

So... that covers most of what I asked about. I tried to ask whatever question came to mind so I could report back here and give you guys as detailed a rundown as possible. If there's anything else you want me to ask, just let me know. Sorry this was so long but I tried to cover as much ground as possible, since I won't be downloading it myself, even though I already ruined it by getting these spoilers. Oh well. It's still gonna be a fun theater experience Smile

 		I guess this gives credence to the discussion before about how the TV spots and trailers combined give away the plot of the film. But that was to be expected. I won't be downloading it or even looking for it either.

Anyway, is there any way you can describe the monster in more detail? I think I have an image of what it looks like in my head....but I would love it if you could describe it in more detail, thanks.

And the mini monsters too, please. Thanks man.

She said she saw screen shots and the size of the file which verified it but didn't actually watch the movie.

 		Well, unlike descriptions of the movie that came from supposed, clandestine early viewings of the film, this claim ought to be easy enough to verify by someone who is IRC-savvy (that would not be me). Can we get a verification?

If it did indeed leak on IRC, then in a few hours it will leak on torrent sites and tomorrow the screen shots will be posted virtually everywhere. I guess time will tell.

 		Yeah, not really believing this one. Aside from the the fact that it's from a first-time poster, everything mentioned is easily culled from available trailers and promos, with zero real new info added in.

Yeah, but then again, movies have leaked up to two months before its release date in the past, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that "Cloverfield" leaked today. We're only three weeks away, right?

Either way, I hope it isn't true. I don't want screen shots of the monster popping up everywhere. If we got the whole plot from the trailers and commercials, then the only mystery left is the monster. Bleh. It'll happen eventually though.

 		I might try one of these to see if it's genuine, it would take too long to dl the whole thing, but you can normally preview a partial download.
Workprint quality wouldn't even be the finished film, so I wouldn't want to watch it in that state.

I'm not saying it can't happen. Ive downloaded movies before their release date. I know it can and it might happen with Cloverfield. But I don't think the OP is telling the truth. Where did they get this from? If it came from a well known and respectable admin or member then ok I might believe it but not from a 1st time poster.

For a film like this, I don't think any leaked version aside from a DVD screener rip would come close to touching how it will look in the theater. The film and the style its shot in beg to be seen in a big screen environment. Workprints are horrible quality, on a computer or on a TV screen.
