I like Premiere. It is a solid platform to work with. I have a friend who loves it and can do some really cool things with it. I learned to edit with Final Cut Pro and have been working with it for so long now that I feel very comfortable with it.

You got some really nice results with your project. And I have to admit, I love anything claymation really. Gumby, those Rankin/Bass Holiday claymation projects, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride...great stuff. I much prefer it over CGI, but then again I prefer most anything over CGI. Perhaps it's my age, but I like to know that I am looking at a solid object, something that can bounce light. Not just some grouping of pixels. I prefer to see the string on the spacecraft...that's the Hollywood I love!

Anyway...great job!

I liked Reagan's live-action commercial and Dennis' animated one.

I was HOPING so badly I'd have the only animated one, hehe. I wanted to "show off" but then you went and did stop-motion Sad -and the only reason I decided against it was because all last semester I was doing stop-motion (Experimental Animation) and I was burnt out just enough on it to decide on doing mine in After Effects.

Yup. After Effects is the way to go. Cool I'm a bit biased, tho. I've been working with it for quite some time. How long did it take all of you guys to shoot/edit everything? Took me a day to shoot, a day to animate, and a day to assemble/cut the audio together. (And by day, I mean like a few hours max. I still have a life to live, too. Wink )

mine took a day (probably 2 hours of actual filming and about 4 hours of goofing around and just not being at all serious) of filming to film the shots for the split screen behind the tree effect/the skinny guy dropping trou with the slusho/and the medium guy(me) walking into the building. then about 20 minutes to film the big guy in b/w and him walking down the stairs and out of the parking lot. then it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to cut the 9 second clip of the slusho song and splice it to make it sound like a loop. then about another 30 minutes to record me doing the old timey voice and line it up to match with the video. and finally it took me about probably 1 hour to edit everything together and do the ending graphic (if you didn't notice i changed the colors of the slusho logo around a bit)

however this doesn't count the time that i spent looking online to find the plug-in to give windows movie maker a true split screen transition, or the time i spent figuring out how to do the split screen (with a test video of me walking across the room) which probably added up to another 2 or so hours.

My daughter, my niece and I went shopping on a Friday night to buy props and wardrobe. I was in charge of finding the wiffle ball stuff, frisbee, hoola hoop and balls while Darby and Riley looked for something to wear.

Actual shooting took about an hour and a half Saturday afternoon. I was limited by battery time so I had to hustle to get all the pick-up shots I wanted. I did shoot a few additional shots when we got back to the house but that only took 15 or 20 minutes.

Editing took up most of the following Sunday. I really enjoy working with Final Cut Pro so I took my time a played around a lot.

After that, I realized that I enjoyed the process so much that I sat down for a couple evenings and chopped together my "Making Of..." video.

Prior to shooting I did spend a couple late nights in my garage making my Slusho cart. I had Old Time Radio going on my XM radio and popped the tops off a few Guinness so I had a blast!

This was a really fun project and we all had a great time! So I guess Slusho does make Happy Fun Very Happy

Hey madamimadam,

I told myself that I would try to keep it together through the end of today. You would think that that would be enough time for decisions to be made. If at the end of today we haven't heard anything I am going to start to get worried for real, you know?

There is some good new though (providing there are going to be winners for this contest). George Romero's Diary of the Dead contest winners will have their projects featured on the DVD release. I am wondering if Cloverfield will do the same with the Slusho contest winners. That would be very cool. We have discussed the possibility before here, but I did not know that Romero was going to do it. Ok...I am really just killing time here...thw waiting has now officially driven me off the edge. If anyone needs me I will be in my shower, fully clothed, singing show tunes.

TECHNICALLY the two-week deadline they gave us in the official rules means that the waiting could theoretically last till movie time. But if they choose to release the winner's name's a bit earlier, you won't hear me complaining... Wink

I know, I know... I do sound like I am complaining about the wait. But only because I have seen, I think, most of the submissions and it would be a tough call for me to have to pick the five winners. There are some fun, unique commercials out there and I keep asking myself..."Did I do good enough to win?" "Did I capture the Happy Fun spirit of Slusho in an entertaining way?" "Should I have done something different?" We artistic, creative types ( Wink ) can be full of self doubt, you know? Oh well. I will try to cool my jets and be cool about this part of the process (but I am still a wreck).

I know (new pic)! I just saw it. I have already imported it into Final Cut Pro, adjusted a few levels and enlarged it. I don't really see anything odd, except...

1) The starboard side of the bow looks like it has been bashed in.

2) There may be a shadow in the water on the starboard side.

3) There is a reflection, kind of a square with a checkerboard pattern, on the inside of the window of the vehicle from which the picture was taken.

Also, I am not familiar with New York. Is that the Statue of Liberty off to the right side of the pic (some distance away)?

And you are right... this distraction is helping pass the time. Thanks!

edit: I see...that checkerboard pattern is pixilated blurring. hmmm
