They sit in your Outbox until they are read by the recipient, at which point they'll transfer to your Sentbox.

Is there some special way mods or admins can read them and not have the system know they are read? Is there maybe a glitch where a user might read one and it not progress to the Sentbox? I've had and still have a few oldies in there.

Well, mods and/or admins cannot read PMs, although I'd have to make an exception for Space who probably could if he delved into the database, but not through the forum frontend.

I'm not aware of a known bug causing a PM not progressing to the Sentbox... odd.

I didn't mean mods or admins reading PMs between users, I meant PMs to mods or admins. I've got both PMs to mods and admins, and to users that seem to be a bit stale to not have been read.

if a person's inbox is full, i imagine that a sent message will sit in your Outbox as being not received.
