Half the posts on this thread are about how crappy the CGI is.... then they turn right around and swear there's tentacles, heads, flippers.... in the water.

Ever think that these things everyone thinks they're seeing are just bad CGI "artifacts"? Not to mention these videos are posted on the worst picture resolution website known to man: Youtube.

Doesn't matter, in a week we will know if the creature has tentacles. If it doesn't, I'll enjoy reviewing the 48 other threads like this one.

I'm just gonna keep quoting myself all day. First it was MGP swimming away, then it was "black blobs" on three sides of the station, then it was a tentacle, now it's tentacles.

I'm with you. Yes it looks like poo, but then again just about everything on YouTube does. It's not how it looks. It's the content.

I guess you have to remember "don't judge a book by it's cover." Or in this case, "don't judge a movie pre-emptively (sp?) by it's poorly presented CGI tid-bits on YouTube."

Or something like that.

I'd ask people to remember that unless these clips aren't featured in the film in any way, the budget is going to be pretty minimal for anything viral. Even if it actually is in the film, as pieces of a credit sequence or whatever, these fx shots would have had to have been done early last month (or earlier) in order to be integrated into the marketting production. That means that, in the following time, there would be many passes done on the shots before they were added to the film print.

Most FX sequences have a list of things that are necessary for the shot. Any animator on a deadline will have to reach the minimum of this list for the viral market deadline before moving on. This usually means that they will do "enough" on everything on the list to make the shot work before focussing on individual details such as the lighting and water displacement, etc. etc.

It's common sense stuff really. It would seem that some people don't think of production time and budgets when they look at stuff. CGI sequences will be worked on until time or budget money runs out.

All things considered, these viral videos are cool as hell. That's a lot of work being done for something that may not even be in the film.

completely agree, Weyland, I posted about the same thing several pages back. These videos look about just what I expect from a viral marketing campaign. Good enough to get the point across, but not quite motion picture quality.

There at least as good as the crap on Sci-Fi channel.

And Blaaaaaah, how are you agreeing with me? I said there's no tentacle, then you post that you see many tentacles?

I agree with ya on this, They did pretty good job if it was just for marketing. Good point Weyland!

I said there was a case for it. IE, it's possible for people to see it, I see what they see if I try. IN FACT, I can see several tentacles IF I WANT TO. I also said, which you neglect to acknowledge, that I'm probably wrong, and that it's probably the poor quality of the footage, which is ambiguous enough to play tricks on the eye.

awesome. I wonder about their training facility. May be a whole other movie in that somewhere. Tagruato sounds more and more like Spectre every day. They even have the cool, disappearing lairs now.

How cool would it be to have JJAbrams direct a Bond film where the bad guy is Ganu? I think I'd get in line for that.

I guess if you WANT to see tentacles, you could tell yourself you see them. I never thought the monster has tentacles, always thought that would look kind of stupid, so I don't see anything in any video that resembles a tentacle.

I will admit you're right, with the quality of the video, someone could see whatever they want to see. I bet SLUSHOMAKESMEHAPPY sees Zilla in there.

the point is, tentacle or not.
MGP brought the station down, and he's pissed.
Your going to see what you want to see, it could be there, it could be CGI artifacts.
These videos are to show certain things,
1.MGP was responsible for the collapse of Chuai,
2.MGP's pissed
3. it can hurl multiple objects upward (refer to teaser, and trailer explosion aswell) (well this is just speculation so this doesn't really count)

...and the green thing near the top looks "defiantly" like a tennis court. Confused
(Nice choice of words there... Freudian slip or something?)

Y'all will see whatever you want to see. Unless it's clear as day, I ain't buying it.

Adam's screen caps also bring up a point. Look at the lights above the visible red leg of the station in the top two caps. Then look at the same area in the bottom two caps. The area where the lights were now seems covered by a dull yet slick looking object.
