Each video reflects each countries reporting "style", and the American one is perfect, because they would just consider this a "Fluff" piece. The American media has more important things to worry about right now, like Britney Gone Wild, Football playoffs and presidential primaries.

If this was real-world, it would be exactly like this.

So the Japanese lost their new toy out in the middle of the ocean... how sad.

LOOK! Britney's coming out of the hospital with Dr. Phil! Breaking news on CNN!!!!

Not really a "fluff" piece, that would be something more like "Tagruato is great", "Puppies are cute" or something along those lines. I have a hard time believing that in the age of 24 hour cable news that the destruction and collapse of an oil rig wouldn't bring heavy coverage. Oil is such an important topic in the U.S. Every little thing that effects the supply and/or price of oil is reported on in depth in the U.S. No reason to think that this wouldn't be.

Exactly.

This was mentioned about 40 pages ago briefly but I think it needs to be brought up again.

If I learned anything about this thread, its that *nothing* needs to be brought up again. It was mentioned, and discussed. There isnt really much evidence for it, only that its possible.

I really think it's more to keep some realism (and this has been brought up before). In other words, it's easy for us (Americans, sorry everyone else, but it is an American movie) to believe that these foreign news reports are real. If they were to do an American national news report from GNN (for example), it take a bit more to suspend our disbelief. A news report from a tiny station in CT (sorry Norwalkians) is easy to swallow as "real" still. Initially, I didn't think there would be any American news report for the same reason.

not sure if this has been posted but i googled the name Chuai and this is the wiki page:

Quote:
Emperor Chūai
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Emperor Chūai (仲哀天皇,, Chūai-tennō?) was a Japanese monarch, the 14th emperor (tennō) of Japan to appear on the traditional list of emperors.[1] Emperor Chūai is considered by most historians to be a legendary figure, and the name Chūai Tennō was assigned to him posthumously by later generations.

No firm dates can be assigned to this emperor's life or reign. Chūai is regarded by historians as a "legendary emperor" because of the paucity of information about him, which does not necessarily imply that no such person ever existed. Rather, scholars can only lament that, at this time, there is insufficient material available for further verification and study. If Chūai did exist, there is no evidence to suggest that the title tennō was used during the time period to which his reign has been assigned. It is much more likely that he was a chieftain, or local clan leader, and the polity he ruled would have only encompassed a small portion of modern day Japan.

However, it is also claimed that he was the father of Emperor Ōjin (who is generally accepted to have existed based on archaeological evidence) in the Kojiki, and so his legend may have been based on a living person. This historical person would likely have lived sometime in 4th century AD, meaning the dates assigned to Emperor Chūai are almost certainly incorrect. According to the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, he was also a son of Prince Yamato Takeru, and therefore a grandson of Emperor Keikō, a Yamato monarch. Chūai's wife was Jingū.

According to these same legends, his wife was suddenly possessed by some unknown gods. The gods promised Emperor Chūai rich lands overseas. Chūai then looked to the sea, but he could see nothing and denounced his belief in the promises of the gods. The gods were enraged by this and declared that he would die and never receive the promised land. Instead they would go to his conceived but unborn son. The legend then states that Chūai died soon after and his widow, Jingū, conquered the promised land, which is conjectured to be part of modern day Korea. According to one version of the legend, Chūai's son was born three years after the death of Chūai, which lends further support to the notion that the stories surrounding him are based on myth rather than actual events. This legend also has many other flaws (it claims that Jingū was flown into the middle of the promised land and then conquered into Japan) which have largely discredited the story among historians.[2]

In the "leaked" production notes JJ states that the monster is a young child who has just been born, and comes from deep under the sea. If you read the last part of the wiki page it seems to have a connection. What I wonder is who do they pay to just sit around smoking pot all day and coming up with crazy ancient Japanese legends and myths to throw into the movie.

I did that too yesterday, and noticed that all the drilling stations are named after emperors.

Hmmm...

Dont Feel Like Going Through
109 Pages!

I'm sure its been reviewed, cause everything is reviewed in this forum, but I don't remember seeing it and I've followed pretty closely...I decided not to start my own topic, because thats ridiculous, but trout me if its been discussed, so I can go back to your directed point of origin.

This image comes up after the escape boat is hit by falling debris. You still see the horizon line of water, or what looks like water, with a backdrop of an odd atmosphere. Is this a production error? If the camera was broke, wouldn't the image be blank?

I think it's the a line on the floor of the boat, with feet or legs either side.

You freaked me out by posting in this thread right now I thought a new vid just came out ...I just about messed my pants.

As for the image, I saw that too, but it kinda looked like a skull to me and I did not want to open up any more "demon in hair" type of discussions again.

Sorry, didn't mean to excite you over a nonexistent new video. Just thought that this was kind of obvious and just out of place. The ocean line on the bottom of the screen is evident. This image holds for a good second before going back to another scene. Just don't know why they chose this over a blank blue screen. Everything they do is for a reason...but why this? May not be a clue, but just looking for a motive...

Oh that line, I think the stuff at the bottom is just static or a corrupted image, the with part of a shot of the red floor of the boat above that.
