I think that the scratches and "bite" could possibly be the rats. It would make sense to me at the very least but at this point in time we really just can't say what exactly is the cause of marlena's sickness or even if she is the expanding woman (could just be suggestive editing).

Ye, I buy the theory that a possible infection is spread via bites of sorts, and that the stuff Jame slurps down doesn't spread anything to anyone. But if so, whats the significance of Jamie slurping down what oughta be pure seabed nectar? It's gotta result in something, or we wouldn't be seeing it. Possibly even something of relevance to the movie.

What's the alternative consequence of Jamie eating that shit, you think? How does that tie-in with what happens in the movie, what with alien monsters and all?
Is tiny-parasite-breaking-out-of-stomachs-and-goes-on-a-biting-rampage the best theory we have?

Maybe the seabed nectar is actually MGP poop and everyone who drinks Slusho gets super extreme case of ecoli.

Seriously, I think this dumb broad explodes and sends parasites everywhere and they grow from there. The secret ingredient in Slusho is supposed to be kept cold and she eats some hot spoiled nectar. I think when the nectar gets warm it hatches the parasites

Maybe she goes into the SOL head and then mutates. That would be a good reason its head is gone Very Happy

Think about real life examples to progress this line of logic:

Deep Sea Nectar could be a lot like yogurt. Tastey even good for you, filled with living things, perfectly fine to consume as long as it is kept under proper conditions.

As for the Nectar being an infectious agent produced by the monster, who would he be trying to infect at the bottom of the friggen ocean? Maybe Tag (Bold Futura) did some gene manipulation? And what has Parafun to do with any of this?

Whatever the Deep Sea Nectar is, we can already mark a few things off the list.

1) The ingredient by itself seems to have no ill effect when frozen or properly stored. A lot of folks have had Slusho and love it. It's more accurate to say DSN has some sort of euphoric effect and may even make a person healthier. That's why Slusho is so popular.

2) Teddy was apparently not concerned with the DSN being unfrozen for a certain amount of time in the package he sent Jamie. Otherwise he wouldn't have told her to wait several weeks to open it. So, either DSN takes a while to go bad, or he had it packaged in such a way that it wouldn't be affected by being unfrozen for so long. Note that Jamie kept it wrapped in the tinfoil it came in.

3) If DSN had a serious side effect like turning into monsters or causing people to blow up, it's doubtful Tagruato would distribute it as wildly as they have. That would just be bad business, not to mention wrecking your research crew. Surely someone else has eaten it unfrozen and unpackaged before.

So, my theory is that Teddy's warnings about not eating it and keeping it frozen were less about possible hazards and more about preserving the DSN for later investigation. DSN probably reacts to both light AND heat, so as long as it's frozen or wrapped it will keep. I would guess that in the presence of light and heat the DSN breaks down or becomes something else that is unremarkable. The "do not eat" warning (aside from being writer's bait for Jamie to eat it) revolves around the euphoric and possibly addictive qualities of the DSN.

Is the DSN related to the monster? Maybe, otherwise there's no reason to mention it so much. However, it might just be a coincidence.

Does it cause people to blow up or release mini monsters? I highly doubt it. A big company like Tag has no reason to risk its reputation on something that dangerous.

Does it attract the monster to NYC? Not directly, since it probably exists in larger quantities in Japan. If Slusho is as big over there as the site claims it is, they should have been monster crushed a long time ago (and invaded with mini monsters if DSN caused that).

Well thought response Talon ... I unfortunately can't say the same
for a reoccurring fleeting thought I've had from time to time.
The investor news article referencing Dr. Abe causes me to wonder...

Tagruato is aware that many of you are shocked and angered over the recent article by the Ravaille Research Center. The Slusho! Board of Directors would like to assure you that the article's claims are completely false and that there is no Seabed's Nectar available outside their contained factories.

Kept thinking there may be another strain of DSN other than the one that
has been successfully marketed in Japan. Possibly a version that was
concocted by the fine biologists at YMR ... Kazui Ichigawa comes to mind.
There is an allusion that he uncovered a magnificent discovery before he
retired - what was it?? Eh, anyway, this second or other version of DSN
may offer the more ill gained side effects, as opposed to the euphoric
effects that stand as Slusho!'s trademark of sorts. Obviously, if that was
the case, the corrupted version would potentially be kept outside their
contained factories, separate from supplies of the original DSN ... or not.
