Just to confirm - I had my translation looked over by a Japanese friend - the tanker was definitely going from Norway to New York when contact was lost. The tanker is not related to Tidowave or Tagruato.

Excellent! I read your post in the other conclusions thread that there is not a mention of timing with that distress call. Is that correct?

Unless I am missing something, they just seem to talk about the tanker and losing contact with it and wondering if there's a relation. I couldn't hear any dates, times, or "befores" or "afters" mentioned.
I am assuming it is after the Chuai incident as it happened closer to New York.

Yeah, that's what I'm assuming as well. I'm hoping/guessing we'll either hear another distress call or possibly something leaked from the Coast Guard next... but I've been wrong in the past.

What we have here folks, is basically the North Atlantic acts as MGP's personal playground. A few tankers here and there, maybe a nice trawler as a midafternoon snack, and even an entire oil rig for lunch. Who knows what other kind of fun he's having en route to NYC. I think its been mentioned, but im sure there's plenty of toys out there to distract him for a couple days. And then once he finds the coats, the real mayhem starts.
On another note, at least we've finally got that distress call finalized

In all honesty, 37 miles a day underwater seems like quite a bit.
Swimming Speed
Quote:
Swimming speeds of stream fish vary from essentially zero to over six metres per second, depending upon species, size, and activity.
Six meters per second translates to 21.6km/hr (13.4 MPH), or over three hundred miles a day. That's not even counting burst speeds.
And that's not taking consideration that MGP is between four to six times larger than the biggest animal there is. Swim speed is based on stroke length; who knows how long MGP's stroke is, especially if it's built for swimming.

Ok, my ARG skills are basically zero, but wouldn't and IG version of http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/MARCOMMS/GMDSS/gmdss_statistics.htm be a good thing to look for?

Norwegian tanker The Hav Vind going from Norway (no shipping port mentioned ) to NY. Its obviously meant to not be a TAg ship, as it has a norwegian name. (hav vind means litterally Sea Wind, which in japanese would have been a pretty typical name for a ship!)
I think the reason for this plotdevice is to prove that Cthulhu (no MGP from me anymore) attacks indiscrimenantly. And a missing ship would explain any US presence in the area, so we might see further released materials, from a coast guard chopper or another vessel during a search for instance...
The US would perhaps keep it under wraps so to not spread panic, but put the military in high alert.

I'll go along with that.

Im not sure exactly where on the internet, buttttt I'm nearly positive that JJ confirmed that the monster is not wearing any pants, and certainly no grumpy ones at that.
Now, why would Cthulhu attack an non-Tagruato vessel? It might be carrying DSI from the platform, but then it wouldn't be described as enroute Norway-NY...
I think its more a case of Cthulhu being territorial!

But we don't know if it is built for swimming and we don't know how long it's stroke is and we don't know what it's speed is for long-distance swimming. I totally admit that 37 miles per day is probably not a lot for something like a humpback whale or other migrating sea animal. My point is that I think we can be fairly certain the monster doesn't get to New York until 1/18 or perhaps late 1/17. It doesn't really matter how fast it travels between Chuai and NYC.
