Swimming Speed

Quote:
Swimming speeds of stream fish vary from essentially zero to over six metres per second, depending upon species, size, and activity.

Six meters per second translates to 21.6km/hr (13.4 MPH), or over three hundred miles a day. That's not even counting burst speeds.

And that's not taking consideration that MGP is between four to six times larger than the biggest animal there is. Swim speed is based on stroke length; who knows how long MGP's stroke is, especially if it's built for swimming.

But we don't know if it is built for swimming and we don't know how long it's stroke is and we don't know what it's speed is for long-distance swimming. I totally admit that 37 miles per day is probably not a lot for something like a humpback whale or other migrating sea animal. My point is that I think we can be fairly certain the monster doesn't get to New York until 1/18 or perhaps late 1/17. It doesn't really matter how fast it travels between Chuai and NYC.

So, what's the airspeed of an unladen swallow? African or European?

Seriously, though, once again lets go back to Godzilla, the inspiration for Cloverfield. It's well established that G moves faster through water than land. For as big as he is, he's a much better swimmer than walker. On land he plods, in water he glides.

If you can figure that MGP moves at a certain rate on land, it's not too hard to imagine he moves faster than that in the water. He probably isn't taking a direct route to NYC either. He just woke up, he's quite annoyed, and as someone else said there's plenty of things in the North Atlantic to trash along the way.

Of course, if he's making too much of a mess, the world is going to sit up and take notice. Not to mention the NATO navy has a pretty good eye on what goes on between here and Europe. It will be interesting to see how MGP manages to avoid detection before he hits New York.

WHAT WAS THE TANKER DOING IN NY HARBOR ANYWAYS? There's an earthquake, then the tanker is capsized (Clearly laying on it's side on the left side of lady liberty.) Then the explosion happens. Then after about 15 minutes (When HUD zooms in) the tanker is now on the right side of lady liberty not capsized but partially sunk it also seems that the tanker is docked. and in between him panning to the tanker and headless lady liberty there is flames all over the water and liberty island. What happened and what does MGP have to do with it. And how did the head get to the end of the street...? Spat, thrown, cut with a 9 sword? What is everyone elses thoughts?

That wasn't an earthquake, that was something MGP did. One character just says it felt like an earthquake. Trying to remember if they even mention a possible earthquake in the news report in the film like they did in the trailer.

See, the thing I'm really obsessing about is the events in the harbor leading to the SOL head landing on the street. So was the tanker pulling MGP (we know they can, the manga shows that.) or did MGP follow the tanker? and what was the earthquake was it him waking up?

the news report at the beginning does mention an earthquake. but again, like euchre said, it probably wasn't. it was speculation. as far as my knowledge goes, NYC couldn't honestly suffer a major quake. the only seismic fault anywhere near, is in far western NY. wouldn't really rattle what is essentially an island.

next up would be the mid-atlantic ridge. but that is so far out, at best it would've caused a tsunami.

in short, no earthquake. the news report was just speculating at what "capsized" the obviously NOT capsized oil tanker. it was clover.

Dont know if this is posted yet but, in the transcript from the USGX pictures.. dont they say somewhere "it went after them"? This could explain the monsters arrival in New York.
Sorry if this is posted already Razz.

i don't think this has been posted yet as far as speculation, friend.

but i think it meant "it went after them" in the sense of on the actual chuai station. remember, the person kept talking about the eco-terrorists. but then again, so much was blacked out, who knows?

it could've said "ganu yoshida and friends were playing hungry-hungry-hippos, and it went after them". Very Happy

the main thing that i still wonder about, is the boat foortage. why in the hell, and how in the hell, does the beast spew a couple chunks of debris about 100 feet in the air?

I think the part of the debris is just the way water deals with air under water. Like when you.. hold a soccerball underwater, it comes up.
And yes, i am very interested in the parts that were blacked out, maybe this is the new lead Alyse is talking about.

Yeah i think the "unknown" parts are because they didnt understand what those people were saying. The transcript is translated remember? And when Japanese people (the tagruato employees) get excited, they always talk really fast and not understandable Razz. I wonder if the Submarine captain killed himself if he woke up the monster. Samurai style!

I do a lot of transcription work and "unknown" or "unintelligible" are used frequently if the recording is garbled. If we could get the actual audio, that might be interesting Wink

yes, a recording would be delicious.

i'm still wondering though.... why pics of the chuai station? anyone remotely invested in the viral KNOWS that the monster destroyed the station. i know there's contrary articles and whatnot, but all one needs to do is watch the videos of the disaster.... in every different video, you blatantly hear the "roar". so it's kind'f like a big, fat "duh".

i understand that alyse probably didn't have knowledge of this, and the site was intended to direct her to knowledge of what happened, but, i dunno... i guess i'm just rambling.

I still like my theory that mgp came at nyc island full speed, hit the actual land mass (causing said earthquake), burrowed midway through it, and burst up midtown, causing the explosion. Iron Monger style Twisted Evil
