Hi NewKid,

I think might be onto something very good here... though it may not be this specific type.

I think we need to also remember the backstory. These punch cards are coming from the future, most likely created by the survivors of a major war with robots. They may revert to very old technologies to pass information because the robots are not trained in those types of technology.

Seriously these punch cards, and now the new message up on the blog, are gonna be the death of me.

But Newkid, you are right, it is a possibility.

At the moment those of us in chat are operating under the assumption that the punchcards are the key to the new blog post

Quote:
We just got this message a few minutes ago. The subject line read "From a member of the Resistance."

You're running out of time. It will be back. Skynet is not dead. You will be.

You have the pad so here are the first 2 device locations.
(1)

Note the first four words on both messages have the same number of letters. It's possible the message is the same on both (ie "the engineered camera is")

[SOLVE]

We've solved the cipher, using the punchcards!

More on the solve later, but first, the answer and a request for help from people in the New York and Los Angeles areas.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

1) the resistance device is near the surface of the ground at a park in granada hills ca at the following coordinates thirty four point two six one five five three minus one one eight point four nine six four four eight

2) the resistance device is being held in a corner newstand and grocery store at fifty two canal street new york ny ask lily for the resistance package

So, to help us, people in the New York or LA area can

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
go pick up these packages! We suspect that they are cameras containing pictures FROM THE FUTURE, and that the company EniTech will ask for them to be returned at some point. Go to it, folks!

For those wondering about the solve, here are the essentials:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The punchcards are actually depictions of guitar chords. They correspond to Pink Floyd songs. The lyrics of the songs are the keys to decoding the ciphers given in the message from the Resistance.

Note that this means that we have two punchcards - two songs - two sets of lyrics which have yet to be used! Presumably, another update will give us two more ciphers.

Come to #enitech to discuss!

So... more on the solve - we have the keys, now we need the other two clues.

can't spoiler 'code', so here's the stuff... skip it if you don't want to read
Code:
-32010 C     -32000 C7    022002 Emadd2  -32000 C7   222000 Bm/F#  Welcome to the Machine
002210 Am/E  320003 G     200232 D/F#    000000 --   000000 --     Wish You Were Here
--0222 DM7   -02120 AM7   -46454 C#m7    -20202 Bm7  000000 --     Time (solved)
-02210 Am    564477 B7/A  -02210 Am      -02020 AM7  000000 --     Goodbye Blue Sky (solved)

The clues and full solutions:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
* Clue 1:
wph psmawxtugj umbpvi vw qsnv lkm vsfzhge fy alj gczcaj bh m qsus ll uleieuw vvopj yh yp xoe ihzcijnbx uvscwmewaif momgkm rwmv dtiok trs fmt kbv qlpr kcmp xksir qigbs qyi oef pckzd nrqqr timv rbui xzf lvnv ssxf rmykb
* key: (Pink Floyd's Goodbye Blue Sky)
Did you see the frightened ones
Did you hear the falling bombs
Did you ever wonder
Why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world
Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky
* solution:
the resistance device is near the surface of the ground at a park in granada hills ca at the following coordinates thirty four point two six one five five three minus one one eight point four nine six four four eight

* Clue 2:
mpg bmfospalvl hqjugr bk uligs hopx xn d wzcqep lsqxkigw eed tukcwkc lasys uk xqstl hbt jaadh srbmgd vrc yffe ab ofk aqpa jcw zys lrvqfrohtl dmgdocr
* key: (Pink Floyd's Time)
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
* solution:
the resistance device is being held in a corner newstand and grocery store at fifty two canal street new york ny ask lily for the resistance package

*high fives all around to everyone in chat in the deep hours of the night*

Oh and also, whoever goes to get the cameras, be sure to document the adventure in video and/or photo Wink

edit: fixed the solutions - clues/keys/results were mixed up

We have an agent on the ground (vpisteve) heading out to the Granada Hills location.

I have messages out to a few NYC people. At the very least, I have someone lined up who can get there about 7pm, but I'm hoping we can find someone who can get out there before that.

-----------

edit Bad news.

I haven't been able to find any reports of someone else finding it tho.

Sorry to seem dense, but why kind of cipher was used to do the encryption?

The latest from steve:
steve wrote:
near the coords there's a lightpole with the bottom access panel ripped open ( was wrapped in duct tape). Unless I'm missing it somewhere else

the place was obviously a cache, and that there was duct tape where it was sort of sealed up, etc.

So, the item is no longer there - although I have not seen any reports of someone else finding it.

Thanks, Andy!

I see the source of my confusion now. The two encrypted texts and keys are mismatched in thebruce's post above.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Clue 1 uses Time for its key, Clue 2 uses Goodbye Blue Sky.

I hope some bum on the street didn't take it Sad
No offense if that's actually a good area, I've got no idea.

@MrToasty: He swapped the locks, not the keys.
He fixed it.
